I'll never forget the few times I've been up to the 'puppy' part in a very well-known London department store, where dogs frequently go for around the 1k mark. Funny that someone would want to pay that straight from a department store, rather than buying from a reputable breeder with all health checks/breeding in place. I guess they appeal to the people who have more money than sense- wanting to buy a 'designer dog'. They had some Beagle cross type things in one time and I'm sure they wanted something like £1300 for them. *rolls eyes*
This whole thing just reminds me so much of going into said shop. :S
words fail me really, I thought it wasn't possible in the UK to sell puppies like this?? Just been on the website and the found the following words very upsetting:
'All Dogs4Us Basset Hound puppies come with a 6 month guarantee.'
Believe it or not they are still purchasing puppies from the same puppy farm that was featured in the clip three years ago. So much for them saying on the channel 5 film that they would not after they were exposed for doing so.
I live 5 mins walk away from that place. I have lost count of how many people have 'rescued' dogs from there. My sister for one, went in there and just had to 'rescue' this lovely little spaniel who weeks later ended up in the vets with what was found to be a chronic heart murmur.
They are also selling kittens now, someone else i know bought one only to have it put down a week later, the vets said it was at most 5 weeks old.
half the time the parents take the kids in there to look at the puppies and then get moaned at till they give in. Like taking a child to a pet shop and it suddenly deciding it has to have a hamster.
They are the same people who don't know how many healthy young dogs are PTS each day, or that the pounds will only keep a stray dog for 7 days before either PTS or, if the dog is lucky, a rescue "might" be able to find a space.
This petition against the sale of puppies in pet shops will be handed in to 10 Downing St in early December. Please sign and pass on to your friends. The law needs changing to stop this unnecessary trade in sick puppy farm puppies. Buying a puppy from places like this might be rescuing one puppy but it is supporting the trade and condemning the parents to carry on suffering. However hard it is walk away and report any welfare concerns to local councils that issue the licenses for pet shops.
