I don't know if people remember but I bought Dolly last year by accident so that I could get out of the situation of buying another horse and then Dolly turned out to be lame. After a lot of unsuccessful negoitions with the Dealer and getting a horse he was offerning in a swap vetted (it failed dramatically) I decided that I would rather pay a vet to fix her, and take the chance it might not work, than give that Dealer any more of my money.

So she went off to Willesley, was operated on, came back looking fabulous and full of beans - I was expecting Miss Depressed. She behaved herself impecably on box rest for a month, and then I got to start riding her again - which she thought was great fun.

I went on holiday in December for a month and she went and stayed at a friends and came back looking and feeling great. Since then the vet told me to just get on with it and we have been, walk, trot, canter and a bit of jumping.

On Sunday when I went to the farm my sister had a grid set up and we joined in and she felt fabulous. She was just pinging thru it and jumping them enourmous, which she never used to do before.

I finally feel like she is cured as she is totally sound and really enjoying herself. My lorry gets MOT'd in March and then I can start going to shows again.

Fingers crossed that by writing this post that I haven't jinxed her and she is lame when I get home....

That's such great news, how exciting that you're getting a feel for the 'real' Dolly, we're going to have such a cool Summer. Hoping to get to the Hand Saturday for the Ams there, I'd better start watching my back. Mind I doubt I'll get much above a metre & you'll be off doing 1.10" within a few shows....

Thank-you!

S_K she now feels like Olympic does when you jump him thru a grid, before she would clear them but with the bare minimum.

SM, I'm starting out unaffliated until I get my eye in so I think it might take me a while to get to 1.10

. She has really changed since I've got her, she is a lot more cheeky now

This was her leg 3 days after the op at the first bandage change. It never bled or weeped and you can't even see it now. It would be very easy to sell her as normal if you were dodgy

First time she was turned out in her little paddock, luckily that was all the running around she did as the stomach then took over

This is her the first time she had tack on in 6 months (5 months ago), she was rather large, I also became obsessed that if I pulled her mane she would go lame (it's still a bit long and I haven't brushed her tail yet for the same reasons (11 months)

). She has lost some weight now but I don't have any recent pics.

What fantastic news! It must have been a very depressing and long haul to get her there, but obviously so worth it in the end!

Depressing, a long haul and expensive - no insurance.

I don't remember seeing your original post but what a lovely fairy tale ending to what must have been a bit of a nightmare during the last few months. Very best luck from now on - looking forward to hearing how you both get on

After he came up with the fabulous deal of Dollyand £1,000 for a horse that when I got it vetted I was told if I jumped it on a surface I might be lucky and it would last 18 months I thought that there was no way I was giving him anymore of my money, I would rather have had Dolly shot than give him another penny. From what I have found out about him since I'm not at all surprised. I found quite a few people who also bought horses off him and they have never ridden them again. How did I manage to talk to someone who actually liked the horse they got from him?
