Hello all.

Bit of a tricky one - not sue if I am allowed to post this, but as i'm not advertising ( for money ) thought i'd try...

Well, don't really want to go into why, but we have 2 cobs ( our pets - not business owned ) 1 x 14.2 dales x welsh x arab and 1 x 15h coloured 21 and 23 years young ( act like 10 year olds ) that we are no longer really able to keep... We are looking for a home for them together as they have been together forever, and they couldn't cope being apart. They both ride and drive and are total angels, hack ANYWHERE perfect manners etc, live on fresh air, in or out with field shelter. They have no if's or but's about them. Anyway, we are looking for a long term home for them to be kept together to do light hacking / driving / sponsored rides etc. We don't want to sell them but are happy to gift to someone after a loan arrangement if all was to work out well.

Please don't say PTS etc, they are definatley not ready for that yet, and I could keep them if I really had to ( just not great for them as they wouldn't really have much turn out and no rider ) It is not about the money, more quality of life for them. They have been such loyal horsies over the years to us, we think they should go and give someone else a few more years of fun before they are ready to retire ( either coming back to me or to stay with new carer )

Anyways, the reason for posting, is to ask if anybody knows of anyone who may be looking for this type of arrangement. Don't want to really advertise as such, as would rather have someone through word of mouth / friend of a friend or whatever.

I am also thinking of contacting local RDA's as they could be total novice rides, or for a more experienced rider to have real fun on ( there is definately still life in them yet... ) Would rather not just a typical riding school as I feel they don't need to go round and round in circles for hours each day, hacking is their forte!

If this was not allowed, I am verry sorry TFC... I await my infraction :)

xx

Best of luck finding homes.
Re the RDA and you thinking they might not be suited to endless circles. I volunteer at a local RDA and have for a fair while now - circles at plod speed is all our ponies do. If your guys have any spark and interest in doing different things then I wouldn't think it to be the place for them. I have to admit that it isn't the life I would pick for 99% of ponies, very few I think are suited to that life without getting bored to tears.

Oh ok...Thanks, Don't know why, I just thought that RDA's went hacking mainly.. Not sure where I got that idea from... Are there any trekking type centres in the South East / Kent? They would be much more suited to this type of home.

Thanks for other comments... Just want to find them a nice new mummy / daddy :)

I believe there is Driving for the Disabled - could be affiliated to RDA? Perhaps you could call and find out.

Good luck - they deserve loving homes.

I think you should PTS if you cannot afford to keep them. They are not young ,and as you say, have been together forever.

The OP did not say that she could not afford to keep them, just that they did not have enough turnout or a rider and she also said that she didn't want anyone to suggest PTS. These sound like healthy, happy horses, there is no valid reason to PTS.

OP, I am too far away, even if I did know anyone, but I hope you find a lovely home for them in the prime of their life. x

Why didn't you read the original post? She said that it is not about money, just that she wants them to have a few more years fun and work before retiring.

ARGH, do you know how frustrating posts like this are!!! because i look out of my window at my two stables, which are large and lovely and EMPTY!!!!! and apart from being a novice (which i highly doubt you would want them to go to, completely understand) i would love LOVE LOVE to offer my assistance, even if its just so they would have somewhere to stay until you figure out what you are going to do...
:( its not fair!!

*stamps foot and crosses arms*

p.s if you live anywhere near me then maybe PM me, could work something out.

i dunno, i had a full blown argument with the OH because i was convinced that northumbria and cumbria were in scotland....

if its within sensible travelling distance, like maybe weekend/fortnight/monthly visits... i dunno, id love to help.,have done pouty eyes with oh anyway lol!

I am hoping that this is some sort of joke... If it is not, I suggest you go back to my first post and actually READ it. I did clearly say do not suggest pts, they are not ready for that just yet, unless of course you think it's acceptable to pts 2 fit and healthy horses that are perfectly happy to go out hacking on the downs, drive down the local pub and are more than capable of flat out gallop to the gate when there is a feed bowl in sight?!?!?

Thank you for your supportive comments, I've had a few pm's and am hoping to meet / speak with you all in more detail.

Newtothis... We would be more than happy for them to go to a novice rider, but I think you may just be anlittle too far from us ( but geography never was my strong point I'm afraid, so pm me and incan work out where you are if you are interested )

Good luck with finding a wonderful home for them. Cobs like yours are worth their weight in gold, in the cob world they're spring chickens. If I wasn't up to my eyeballs in horses, I'd snap your hand off for such an offer.

sorry but if they have been good to you you owe them their goldn years. i am sure there is a tax deductable way in which they can nanny your youngstock. why not advertise for a sharer to contribute towards costs but to remain on youor yard?

I totally agree, I do owe then their ' golden years ' but what I am saying is that they're not at that stage yet... They still have a good few years of fun in them yet and as we are unable to ride them, I think the nicest thing for them is to find someone that can. Yes they could be babysitters ( although I allready have a few older and non rideable ones in retirement for that job ) but they would just be miserable being retired now, they love to get out and about still and when they have had time off in the past they just are not as happy as when they're in work. I will have them back when he time comes for them to retire if their prospective carers wish. Once again, it's really not about the money, the time, the room ( although I don't have as much turnout as I'd like for them, but I'd work around it -rent more land or something ) it is purely to give them a few more years of doing what they love and to give someone else the enjoyment of having a totally trustworthy steed to have fun on!

Also, don't know what the tax deductible comment was about?!? And I have advertised for sharers, but had no interest really... I would be happy for them to stay with me and have sharers but unfortunately the hacking where i am is just poo and nobody really wants to just hack up and down the road. I've tried...
