Hi,
I seen someone ride at a training clinic in a Pelham with one set of reins? I was sure you had to use two reins with a Pelham, am I wrong here? Can you use one rein? I thought it was 2 reins or one set and roundings.

A Pelham is usually used with 2 reins or roundings. Either the person with only one set of reins didn't know, or there is a special reason that we don't know. Perhaps she wanted a straight bar bit and that was the only one she had in the tack room.

yeah if the rein was on the snaffle ring then I can't see that it's a lot different to a kimblewick tbh. but yes. roundings or 2 reins is the norm.

I did that at a clinic one. Left the horse’s bridle at home and the only thing we could wrangle up to fit was a mullen pelham. Took the curb rein off and went for it, figuring it wasn’t much different to a kimblewick. No harm done.

I’d bet on a tack malfunction somewhere along the line - reins broke, roundings broke.

But yes, should always be two reins or roundings.
