Draw reins

May I suggest books along the "classical" lines, like Sylvia Loch et al? Just google classical riding and many will come up I promise you. As a principle I think it's invaluable but you can go deeper from there. You can go anywhere from there in fact! What am I saying....

Good luck! :)

Yes, thats where things changed for me! A long time ago now in 2008. She changed my riding that woman and led me to classical riding. She is very much in the same camp as Sylvia and trained with my trainer. Absolutely recommend her books and demos as well as Sylvia's.

If we are recommending books, may I suggest a few more?

Definitely Klimke as GS suggests and the Cavaletti one by Ingrid Klimke is very good. I'm using that one now.

I haven't read the whole thread so apologies if topic has now changed!

I'm not adverse to them in any way, and used them on my old mare regularly when I first had her, but in the situation you've outlined at the start I would not.

I've recently got a very green 6yro who is very behind with her schooling. Wouldn't dream of putting them on her as she needs to build, grow and develop in order to work properly. I can't just hop on, pin her head in and go, it's not going to be helpful for her or me!
