Maybe they don't suit your lifestyle, your house is too small, they have inherent health issues, or you only ever have rescue dogs, but if all of these things and other barriers were no issue, which breeds have you never had but always wanted? Or maybe are on your 'to-get' list for the future!

Since I was little and poured longingly over dog books (didn't get a dog til I was 32) my favourite was always the deerhound - I've ended up with the slightly more practical and easy to adopt greyhound, but still think deerhounds are beautiful things, along with my other sighthound 'want' - a whippet, which I very much hope to have one day when I have time for a puppy. I also really love well-socialised staffies (aside from the face-licking, which is a trait I don't like!) and miniature (not toy!) poodles.

What about you?

I've had most of my most beloved breeds, but my guilty desire is for a pug (I know, I know, it's all kind of wrong). I just love their little personalities - friends have two that I occasionally borrow for snuffly kisses.

Can understand this one too - I pass a woman who has two quite fit looking ones regularly (one black, one 'usual' colour) and have to admit they are real characters!

We thought about getting a Whippet puppy but decided against getting a puppy for our first dog and then someone (on here) mentioned Greyhounds and of course now we have Ivy. But I still would quite like a Whippet pup, maybe one for waaay in the future if at all. A Bedlington x Whippet lurcher puppy would be the dream!

I also have soft spot for Staffies, not sure why. The good ones seem great.

I also like JRTs and it was actually a pair of JRT x Chihuahuas that got us seriously thinking about getting a dog in the first place (enjoying the journey from there to Greyhound via Whippet :D)

Labs or Retrievers; Spaniels even though I'm not sure I could keep up with one!

I always wanted an Old English Sheepdog when I was younger.
Now I want a Chinese Crested. I love them.

Do you like the hairless ones or the powder puff, or just any/all? ? They look like fun, I've never met one in real life but they always look up for anything.

I prefer the hairless. I groom a couple and they are absolutely gorgeous dogs. So cuddly and friendly… and they trit trot like little ponies!

Haha! It sounds like you're an 'I'll take all the dogs, any dogs' person like me ? I feel exactly the same about spaniels/labs and not being able to keep up with them though! Hopefully one day we'll both get our whippets (or beddy whippet)!

Yep, just send them all to me :D

As I was typing though I realised it was definitely the Beddy Whippet that's the dream!

Basset hound ? whenever I see people walking one/two I have to resist the urge to jump out of the car and give them a cuddle ?

I see one on my walks often called Lulu, she's lovely! Surprisingly big and hefty, and stubborn as a mule ?

I have always hankered after a toy poodle, the ones I have known have been such endearing, clever little dogs. However when I have a spare space at mine there always seems to be a rescue dog on the horizon desperate for a home. One day perhaps!

I really like poodles too. I said 'miniature poodle' in my first post but actually any of the three sizes is good with me! I knew a silver miniature when I was younger and he was such a nice dog, so clever, and I really love the feel of the springy curly coat! Good for you for giving up space for those rescues though!

An English setter. My mum had and worked them when I was very small and I remember the last one .
I’d love to have and work one now. What use a pointing breed would be in a wood I’m not sure ?

Oh gods, so many. Beagle, Afghan, borzoi, a sable rough collie, a long haired dachshund, a wire haired dachshund and if someone can find me setters without a myriad of health issues then I fancy an English setter next time. It would be a +1 to a working golden though, not going to be without one of those.

If I ever had enough time and land for one - and I appreciate that would involve a lot of time and a lot of land - a Kangal.

Yes to the Borzoi lovers - I'm in full agreement! They're stunning.

English Setters are also stunning, another breed I've never seen in the flesh. I find pointers beautiful too but working dogs are beyond my capabilities, I know that much!

Whippet people never seem to go back, once they've been whippeted - must be a good sign.

Can I also say...more Greyhounds? Like one in every colour. ?

Yes please! Kent Greyhound Rescue is on the OTHER side of the country to me but they've got this girl grey called Pam at the moment who's white with dappled spots and she's cat friendly and dog friendly and so chilled...thank god she's 150+ miles from me ?

Would love a bernese but their expected lifespan is so short ?, big fan of newfies and gsds but again health issues ( and not being knowledgeable to source healthier ones, that and liking rescues more than puppies) puts me off. Always wanted a husky just for their looks but they are too high energy for me hence the having malamutes instead, I'm sure there will be more of them in my future but not sure when that will be.
