Aims of the day were to try and improve from our score at the regional test from Warren Farm last week, and also not have anymore wrong legs! Aims achieved on both fronts
.
Went just for the one test which we never do as she is a two test horse, but figured it would be a good trial run for next week. Ended up late as ever when I picked up a stray dog on the way to the yard in the morning, and had to re-rout to take it home which was luckily only round the corner! So with the choice of washing socks or plaiting, we went for dirty but plaited
. Somehow clawed back time to have a decent warm up and she felt good, slightly too hot maybe, but settled with lots of smooth, calm transitions and sweeping leg yields. Did a slightly back to front warm-up by picking up trot and canter first and then going back to walk and stretching once she was listening, which really helped her submission I think as it got some of the hotness out and then I could ask her to relax and stretch.
Into the test and there was a gorgeous distraction in the shape of a very lively foal over the fence, Topaz was mesmerised bless
, trying to convince mum she might want her own
. Trot work on the whole felt pretty good, being picky I'd like her more supple and soft to the contact still, but for us it felt lovely. Mediums though seem to have got lost somewhere along the way, so something to look at this coming week. Walk also went well and we picked up the correct canter lead despite the foaly creating havoc
. Canter however wasn't our best work, it was sufficient and we got the job done but I felt I had to really keep riding for it to come off. I know it's her weak pace so don't know if really it's me trying too hard and creating the issue
, or if I am less 'on it' she will just scoot off llama'ing it down the arena?
4% improvement on our score from last week, so very pleased with that! 7-7.5's for walk and trot, 6's for canter
would anyone like to teach her how to canter in just one week
? Did manage 7's for our medium canter, so we can do it if we go fast ? Also got an 8 for standing still, we can do being still
. Ended up on 67% so feeling hopeful for a decent score next week, aiming to try and beat our current regional high of 64%!
Smile if you got placed and beat the gold riders
.
Also got to wear my new jacket, which I love, but may have to lay off the takeaways
cutaways hide nothing .
