Dressage horse prices...? 100,000+ for a 6 year old?!?

If money was no object- yes I would pay it.

But for me it wouldn't be a 6 year old, it would be a 13 yo schoolmaster or similar who could show me the ropes and that I can learn on rather than vice versa.

And ditto what GG said, a good, reputable producer would, in most cases, not sell to any old Tom, Dick or Harry. It would take a certain and good type of rider to be able to ride and bring out the best in the horse in question IMO and I am sure the producers are well aware of this. Unless desperate to flog, they wouldn't need to sell to just anyone and could afford to wait for the right buyer and with top competition horses, there are always willing buyers!

OP - perhaps the horse competed abroad hence why you can't find its record?

Horses for courses innit? 'nuff said ;)

Ok regardless of money and the fact that I don't know anything about dressage, Warmbloods are late to mature and even with other breeds I wouldn't buy a 6 year old working at advanced level. It sounds like overdoing it too early for my liking and cause the horse to be more likely to breakdown sooner rather than later. Competition records should be provable even if done in another country (I don't know if they are but if I was buying a horse that said it could work at advanced level anything I'd want proof!).

I agree with Texas - too many talented horses are pushed too hard too young which makes for a good short term gain for the producer but rubbish long term health prospects for the poor horse.

I own one gorgeous well bred DWB who was purchased for £25k as a 2 year old but was on Preloved for £1500 by the time he was 7 :( He has a massive splint on one foreleg, the beginnings of arthritis in one hock, white hairs on his muzzle from a twitch being left on too long, white hairs in the saddle area and an abiding fear of pressure of any kind....
