Im going to sound like a total dumbass but im doing my first dressage test this weekend (prelim 4) i have a couple of questions which i hope someone can answer
laugh.gif

1. Does BCEK working canter mean basically go round the arena to K in a working canter from B
2. HOw would you do a BX half circle left 10 metre followed by XE half circle right 10 metres ??
3.Would a 20 m circle at B or E be a 20m in the centre
4. Is the standard small dressage arena be 20m by 40m
5. CAn i choose to do sitting trot rather than rise??

Hi

1) yes
2) ride from b to x in a semi circle then from x to E in a semi circle.
3) yes
4) yes
5) you can do sitting or rising.

As BFG said but would add; the rein on which you do your half circles will depend on the rein you are on when you get to B - if right rein, the half circle will be on right rein etc.

Sorry i was a bit short i was busy when i typed it.

Hope i covered all your questions but feel free to ask anything else if you need to.

It might be worth getting the tests with the diagrams on they show you where to ride each move.

Good luck this weekend let us know how you get on.

Ditto what BFG says, except wanted to add that if you do a test do sitting OR rising, do not attempt to do both during your test.

Really? I sometimes do a mixture according to how the horse is going and have never had a problem

You are right. It is perfectly acceptable to swop between sitting and rising if you wish to do so.

Can do sitting or rising or a mixture but usually at Prelim you would do rising because the horse is at the most basic level of training and has not always developed the strength to carry the rider in sitting without hollowing and potentially becoming sore. I have ridden Elementary in a mix sitting for working trot but rising for the extensions because we (I)were not ready to sit to the whole thing. Sitting sometimes gives you more control but it can also suppress the supple movement of the horse esp. if you are not very supple and secure yourself.

Good Luck

I was told it was one or the other, unless specified in a test. <going to hide now>
