So, we are off to the Regionals! :D

Very excited, but also very nervous. What can I expect? What's different to a normal competition?

Any advise, pointers, tips gratefully received, my instructor is away the weekend of my regional, so going it alone!

He's never normally at any of my competitions anyway, but I was hoping he'd be about for this, but hey ho!

Haha! You guys are funny! But yes the warmups are definately more crowded and everyone more stressed!

My advice would be to remember it's not actually a big deal and to treat it like a normal competition. Stay calm and relaxed. Try not to be too serious etc there is always next year!

Expect tougher marking and don't waste any marks. Be super accurate!

Also no whips!

Congratulations and have fun!

I'm doing Regionals at Keysoe and Addington, the only differences between normal shows and regionals are a few more flowers etc, busier warm ups, and more stressed people! Just do your best to breathe, smile and enjoy yourself (works for me anyway.)

I wish I was going as the Scottish ones are going to be in Aberdeen this year, will go to watch though!! Had a few set backs which stopped me competing grrrr!!!! Congratulations on getting there!! It goes by the championship rules where you cannot have whips or callers, and the warm up is busier and people tend to be a bit more frazzled I have found in the past :)

I am going to Keysoe Regionals for my first ever, Prelim :)
Must remember the no whip as I tend to always have one, best practice without!
Can't wait, I know we aren't likely to be top ten, unless he decides to pull it out the bag, but will just enjoy the fact we have qualified!

Well thats two of us in the section. Wonder how many there will be.
Not worried about the no whip bit as dont carry one with spring. Having to do test from memory is the tricky bit. We've got 3 more outings before the regionals which all have P17 (the regional test) so plan on doing them all from memory for the practice.
Seriously doubt we will be troubling the top ten either. Just getting down the centre line will be a plus.
Whats your horses name? I'll say hello if I spot you.

Its all about going and enjoying and doing the very best we can on the day.
We have qualified so lets go and enjoy it!! Who cares on the placings - its our first time at such a big competition!!
Im really excited :D

I'm getting confused with all the MrsH's on this thread!
It's all very simple really....
MrsH1970 - owns Spring, the horse that is responsible for my SJ demise and conversion to dressage diva wannabe. Obviously, I have to be very polite and respectful to her.
mrsh2010 - a friend I met many years ago when I gave her mum a jumping lesson. We lost touch then met up again recently at a BD comp where she promptly kicked my butt in to second place in the first class. I returned the favour in the second.
Neither of these is the actual MrsH who I've been married to for 20 odd years. She doesn't venture on to HHO prefering to hang out on the BD forum as she's a real dressage diva.
Hope that helps :)

Ah yes, that is all totally clear! I would hope that you were polite and respectful to all the Mrs H's, especially the one at home. :)

Hahahaha great reply!! :D

When are you free you'll have to come and have a ride on the mighty black cob?! ;)

I'm also off to Addington for the prelim. Like you guys this will be my first regionals and I'm getting a little excited I have to admit.
If any one wants to say hi I'm the one with the chestnut TB with a white face, PaddyMonty has met me at Houghton but doubt he will remember! (not like you will remember as Addington is a few more weeks away yet being the last regionals).

What is this 'free' you are talking about. I'm riding 6 days a week and competing on the 7th day.
Dressage seems to have taken over my life!

Haha I know the feeling! My boy has been off unfortunately since pulling up at Bury Farm :( so I've had this so called free time and I'm bored now!

You should come over, he'd get you back into jumping,

See you there :) I'm on a bay TB, he's quite a chestnutty bay at the moment

I usually go to Addington, but this year will be going to Mount Ballan as it's only 30 mins away instead of almost 3 hours! Haven't had my letter yet though...
