Absolutely thrilled with this dude, out again this weekend (could I be getting the bug for it again??‍♀️?) but dressage this time.

Two tests, Intro A and Preliminary 13.

After a week of tension, arguments and “we hate dressage” he went into the warm up stuck his head down and went beautifully - monkey! Great to start with a positive warm up.

In the first test we were both scared but he actually did come back to me and we got through the test. I felt that he went better than I did, I was a bit sloppy and as usual, really struggled with holding the contact - but in my defence I usually have a horse who is behind the bit but not today ?!

The second test came around quickly, we popped in the warm up for 5 mins and had a canter on both reins - I felt like he didn’t really need any more than that which was also a pleasant surprise. I felt like he was a bit more “on it” when we went in this time, a bit more sensitive to me (and my thoughts as I swear he knows what I’m thinking). He was a little tense on his transitions and walk but did manage a fairly nice free walk. His canter was good but he was stronger on the right rein and struggled to relax. All in all it was a good test and considering it was his second ever canter test, I can’t argue - plus he has just come back from 3 months of injury!

I was pleasantly surprised to find out we got two 3rd places, scoring 68.70% & 68.65.

This was our second dressage show (the last was 2 years ago) and only his forth ever show so I can’t complain. Neither of us particularly find dressage an easy or relaxing element but we are making progress!

Thanks everyone!

Well I’m toying with a hunter trial outing next weekend, I’m taking him schooling Monday before I enter... then I’ll probably aim to do some more sj and dressage over the winter!

I don’t want to stop now I’ve started but he’s very green xc so I won’t rush into taking him. He/we definitely perform best out under competition pressure!
