Hey guys
I'm sure this has been done to death but I need some reassurance or discouragement. I've fallen in love with a brown dressage saddle, but am very dubious about competing in it. Is brown frowned upon in dressage I know it's ok in the rules but do you look at people competing in brown tack and think why aren't they in black or do you not even notice? Looking forward to some feedback :)

I never notice the colour of anyones tack. I know ppl who use brown, and ppl who use black and they choose whatever colour looks best on their horse.

Sorry to say, I notice and I don't really like it - it looks cheap, somehow.

And I think you should go the safe route and buy that saddle in black. This is a very subjective sport, unfortunately, and you don't want something like the tack color weighing against you. Plus you need to think about resale value.

I couldn't disagree more! :D Brown will be fine.
Most people do have black for dressage, so if re-sale is an issue then that might be a consideration. But it's what you do in the saddle that counts ;)

brown and tweed is correct for lower levels, black is correct for higher levels! i do 'all in black', but know others who use brown/blue...even grey!

so go for what you want and are comfortable in!

No one will care two hoots what colour your saddle is.

I actually prefer brown leather but always buy dressage saddles in black, only reason being ease of resale - the majority of dressage saddles are black

I have black... But that was dictated by the fact the 2nd hand saddle that fit was black, however I prefer brown tack (dark brown/havanna)... Particularly if you ever want to a showing class!!

See i'm the opposite i don't like black tack at all really to me brown is much more traditional!! But each to there own the world would be boring if everyone had the same likes/ dislikes

Cheap???
No I think it looks lovely. I wear brown on mine when doing dressage. BD rules states either brown or black.
As long as it matches the bridle I would say.

What colour was Charlotte wearing at the Olympics?? Cos I never notice the tack... The point being the judge isn't interested in your tack
