My lifelong dream had been to do dressage to music, and I was super excited to see BD have a new FSM championship to aim towards. However I'm so disappointed to see how few comps there are. There is only ONE near me in the whole of 2018. I've sent off my deposit to my music man and am just about to put together my floor plan and video it (for the music man) but now feel I just can't justify the expense for just one competition. I thought dressage to music was really taking off but maybe not
It's really frustrating as to qualify for the championships they take your 5 best scores (or between 2 and 5) between Dec and June yet from what I can see there are only 7 comps nationwide in the qualifying period oh hang on - closer look - 2 of those are cancelled. So looks like I'm taking horsey on a trip to Isle of Man, Scotland, Lincolnshire and Suffolk. Or maybe not - it's just not feasible 😞

I have a few venues that run them around me, but try getting one above elementary... hardly ever. TBH Kira is afraid of her own music :rolleyes3: so I've shelved the idea for now anyway. Agree, getting scores for the new champs would be very difficult for many of us.

Just a thought - are you relying on the search on the website? I don't think that's up to much yet, the paper schedules in the mag do have more FSM classes than you can search for online.

Really? I've done a search on the BD schedules page and pretty much come up with diddly squat (unless the search facility isn't working properly)

Edited as didn't see your second bit. Yes maybe it's the search facility being a bit hit and miss. Where's the best place to look?

I think it's still bedding in... definitely more in the schedules pages, they are in blue text so you can scan through and spot them. Still not millions but def more than online.

ETA lots more than online! quick count of 34 shows in the Dec/Jan schedules. Very much luck of the draw geographically though, I could get to 3 of them in about a 2 hour drive.

How are you finding them? I've clicked on Competitions and then Schedules page. I do I just go down the list looking for FSM?

In the magazine
Like I said, the online search is still hopeless at the moment, apparently it depends on how the organisers enter the details.

I think as others have said, it's easier to find them in the magazine still.

Shame the music champs are only for the top 8 in the country per level/section. I was really hoping for a proper summer PetPlan or regionals type championship to aim for.

I've been trying to do one all year without having a 2 hour each way trip and failed unless I take holiday and go midweek - even then some are advertised then take it off, missed out on an ror music frilly too :( One local one ran all the music classes at the end of the day so withdrew as I share lifts and it would have meant a 5 hour wait...

what are your nearest venues?

Only West Wilts. That's just over half hour away. Then there's Cholderton which is over an hour and the other way I think Stretcholt and King's Sedgemoor but they are 1 1/2 and 2 hours ish away. Oh there's Half Moon Stud(relatively local) but I'm a bit wary of competing there as the judges peek at you through a hole in the wall. North there's East Soley but again that's quite a trek. Even further afield and a jolly long way there's Hunters and Burrows Court.

Oh blessss. How disappointing.
I use an awful lot of leave on competitions (about 1 day a month which is quite a lot to me)

On the BD search, I find it works well, but don't restrict it too much!
Leave all the top blank, click the advanced filter, change the date range to include the whole of 2018, in the level box scroll down and you'll find Freestyle elementary (for example) select the level or levels you want (Click one, go back click again it will add both)
Click search

THEN when you have got everything go back to the top and restrict to region, or regions, again you can add multiples...

Refine stepwise...

Edit to add, if you tell me level and region/s I'll have a look.

Thats worked ! Thank you ! Still arent many but there are a handful that i could just about get to. There sre far more in the North than here.

Would Sparsholt (near Winchester) be too far? I can't quite work out where you are but may not be too difficult a run for you... They have quite a lot of FSM, just look for Sparsholt on the BD search and leave the other filters blank.

Yes Sparsholt is just about do-able - about 2 hours away. I had seen that they do quite a lot of FSM
