If you can see the reg on the camera then report driver to the police, most of them use Operation Snap now, so it's easy to report and submit footage online. Sometimes they can also get the reg from the footage even if you can't personally make it out.

Get a tabard with a speed cam Symbol on it as well, if you don't have one already, as then it advertises the fact that you're wearing a camera and can cause some to think twice about speeding past.

It's really annoying how many times this has happened to me 😔 I unfortunately don't have a helmet cam but I am going to get one soon. I'm usually with a friend or my daughter when hacking out, so I have a witness 😅. It really scares me with my daughter, I'll always have her on the hedge side, just incase.

It's all too common people having road rage with equestrians, I've had one woman, stop beside me (and my daughter) and lecture me about hacking on the road, she eventually called me a 'f-ing horse maniac' because I tried to argue my point. She THEN pointed a finger at my daughter saying she's 'too young and should be riding with a responsible adult' it bring a tear to my eye, so I called the police for verbal abuse.

There are so many cyclists about too. I am one of those too and I always give tons of room and wait far enough back till i can adequately overtake! We just did 6 miles last night and a woman was coming towards us on our side of the road so hubby was shouting what the chuff!!! And waving his arms. I dont know what on earth she was doing 🤨

Be careful! I did that once and it wasn’t the car that scared my horse but the sound of the whip hitting the car- also upset the other horses we were with!
I actually put some fluttering fluorescent plastic strips on the end of mine and rode with the whip stuck straight out when cars were around. Just check horse is OK with it first!

I tried it out today. This is us at the village shop. The only problem was we were out so long the battery ran out before we got back.
Also there were so many almost identical video clips I didn't find the guy who passed me causing the one coming the other way to have to stop sharply.
Video seems pretty clear though.

I got back to my yard this week and as I was in through the gates about 20 odd motorbikes came past one after another. I was so glad I’d got in. I really think that would have totally freaked my horse out. 😳
Fortunately? we get so many motorbikes that he is totally used to them. They are usually polite but even if they aren't he doesn't care. The only problem day is the annual vintage motorcycle rally and we get over 100 come by, some making a real racket.

And here’s a stupid question - do you still thank people who don’t slow down or pass too closely?

I generally do if they’ve made an effort to slow even if too fast. Figuring catch more flies with honey. But not if made no effort at all.

Same - I try to passive aggressive make them feel guilty, or at least wonder why I might be gesturing to them! If they’re proper idiots then I tend to shout a comment at them. Most are fine but there is one stretch of road that I find a bit tricky as there’s usually at least 1 dodgy driver. We only have 2 routes really and both are road work.

I'm really debating getting a camera, drivers seem to be getting worse. I'm tempted to at least get a hi vis with a camera sign on to see if that helps at all.

I had an idiot the other day that saw me further down a straight stretch of road and put their foot down and accelerated, they must have been doing at least 60, I so wish I'd got them on camera as it was such an incredibly dangerous and stupid thing to do and done very intentionally.

I’ve got an old go pro that I am thinking of digging out. I didn’t want to attach it to my hat for xc as was worried it would affect safety but I feel like for road hacking it might be a good idea.

I report everyone who peves me off after doing a stupid move. If they tell me to get of the road etc, I point to my head camera and say, keep it up mate your going to give me more evidence to send to the police. Fortunately I have not had to do this but have many clips on files of morons, passing me.

I always put the camera on my hat, on the vest it is too low down and will obscure a car and licence plate as all you get is horses neck and head. On the hat you can look directly at the car and the licence plate and record it clearly for evidence.

This twat passed two ridders behind me and me then past the old guy in front forcing the ocado truck to stop, this was on the first part of a s bend which you cannot see round it.

He was reported sent footage and was given notice by police.

What to you do when you report someone to the police. On Saturday I was twice passed on blind bends causing someone coming the other way to have to stop. Just want to know the procedure for next time it happens.

It makes me so incredibly sad, frustrated, bloomin furious. We could all hack out on the road safely if people would just be kind, courteous and patient. This includes riders who could pull over if safe to do so, who could nod a thanks, or smile to drivers who had tried to do the right thing. We have lost so much off road riding over the years due to development. My town has change considerably in the last 40 years. We used to ask each other " where shall we go today?". Now, it's all about "risk assessment", time of day, re delivery drivers, school pick up, bin day etc etc. I don't know what the answer is. Supposedly, the driving test with its theory test included, is meant to create a higher standard of driving? I'm yet to see it. A high percentage of the general public are great, it's the small amount of idiots that try to annihilate oneself and family, that infuriate. Sorry for rant.

You contact the police and explain exactly what happened, they log an incident and police officers will come to your house and take a statement. Then ask you to forward the footage onto their email address.

I did this last week 😣

I am sorry to hear of all these incidents. I would suggest reporting incidents to the Police and insist that they give you an “Incident Number” (so that you know it has been recorded in o their system). Most police forces have a Snap Portal where you can send in hat cam coverage. Also report to the BHS Horse i App or www.horseincidents.org.uk web site as they collect statistics of the type of incident, time, date and location for statistical purposes which can then be used when discussing with central and local government methods to improve road safety for Horse Riders and Carriage Drivers. In addition if you know of a number of incidents along a specific stretch of road you have the option of organising a Police ‘Slow Pass’ Operation, which involves a ridden or driven horse being observed by Police Officers and any dangerous drivers are stopped and talked to. To organise a Police Slow Pass Operation contact the Safety department of the BHS H.Q. As regards other measures you can take I would recommend wearing a long sleeved Hi-Viz jacket so that other road users can clearly see your hand signals and also the wearing of a Hat-Cam such as the Techalogic DC-1 which films both forwards and backwards at the same time. (If you order on their web site www.techalogic.co.uk and use the discount code PWAS1 you will get a 7% discount)! There is also a good Facebook group called 'Pass Wide and Slow'.
