Drop noseband people

I've probably jinxed it now, but thankyou to everyone who said I should try a drop on my boy. He has been going fabulously in it - even instructor noticed the difference tonight (ooo, he's stopped chomping on the bit!).

I honestly did not think it would make that much difference, but I am so enthralled by it, I plan to try it over jumps tomorrow!

Nope....I am gloriously mismatched - borrowed a couple of brown ones from Siennamum....all my tack is black...I will look a fright in the dressage on Sunday unless I can be bothered to try and thread it onto my brown comfort bridle, but even then my reins will still be black....

As I have the black jacket and hat, it will be a good way for the dressage people to know that I am not one of their own and am in fact an eventer moonlighting....

Boo is most upset as she's recently acquired a drop noseband, she goes really well in it but hates the fact that she'll have to think up a new evasion

I have got to go back on ebay my £1.99 bargain has been destroyed by my thuggish horse. So not only did he disgrace himself he broke his noseband before I had even sat on him. I am a drop convert!

Imtrying a drop on my mare on saturday hope it works liek it has for you - she also chomps on the bit !!

Don't get me wrong - he hasn't stopped totally, but instead of constant grinding of the jaw and chomping all the time on it, it's now only when given the rein to stretch out in between periods of harder work.

Of course because I am the most cynical person on the planet this could also be put down to the fact that after his 3 week break he is now a bit fitter, that I am being more consistent about what I ask etc so he is finding it easier so does not feel the need to resist as much? Either way mentally speaking I feel better for not having to strap his jaw shut, so we will continue!

It's interesting though - I tried him in just a cavesson over the summer and he would open his jaw and be really gobby, whereas in the drop I can fit 2 fingers behind it, so he could open his mouth a bit if he wanted, but he hasn't at all, and in the time he's had it on I've got the best work out of him more consistently than I have had before. But again maybe that is fitness and the fact that I am schooling more than once a week. I wish there was a way to know for definite what it was!

brilliant, aren't they, so glad to hear it's working! hopefully they are becoming a tiny bit fashionable again. i really hope one of the top riders will start using one and spark off a real fashion moment, tempt everyone away from horrible tight crank nosebands!

When I was a nipper there was no such thing as flashes, it was a cavesson or a drop.....I would always entertain using one, I've noticed lots more people using them recently which is great, a particular friend has a very good medium horse who refuses to go in a flash & loves his drop.
