I would like to hear if anyone else has had problems dealing with the company.

I purchased a pair of the GALWAY boots for my daughter at Bramham in 2008 and because she liked them so much I decided to buy myself a pair. I got them in February this year from a climbing and outdoor shop in Clitheroe, paying £225.

Last week I noticed that the sole on one boot is coming away from the boot an area of about 1inch is effected.

I telephoned the number given on the Dubarry website, the girl I spoke to was 'curt' and told me to return the boots to the shop. She was no help whatsoever other than that. She did say that I would need proof of purchase?? well as I expected the boots to last a site longer than 9 months I didn't keep the receipt.
I have lots of good quality outdoor boots including walking boots that are ten years old and which are still in good condition, they cost about £40!.. My riding / show boots are at least 6 years old, no trouble there.

I am really angry that Dubarry do not offer to take back faulty goods.
For £225 or as now £250! I would expect these boots to last longer than one summer.

had loads of problems with mine! dubarry did re line them (oops but didnt fit linings well so creases stitched in!!!!!!!!!!) now very hard etc. cracks across foot. woulnt buy them again!

your contract of sale is with the shop you bought them from, not Dubarry.

We sell Dubarrys at work- the odd time we have had to send them back, they've been very quick at fixing/replacing them.
When we do take the Dubarrys off customers we always ask for proof of purchase, so that isn't unusual.

ETA- I've gone through 2 pairs of Dubarrys in the last 2.5 years- its how people look after them/what they do with them etc.I dont look after mine and wear them everyday.
People forget that they are not designed as yard boots- or riding boots. They are not designed to withstand mucking out, ammonia.

This is worrying. Have had my Dubarry Clares for 2 months now, wear them everyday and love them. Think i'll make sure i keep hold of my receipt

I wear mine to the yard, to work , around town!! Everywhere!! But I do clean them & use the boot protector at least once a week in an attempt to keep them in good nick. Not sure what the gurantee on Dubarrys is but its the shop you bought them with you need to report the problem to & also have proof of purchase. If you knew when you bought them, the shop might be able to trace the sale back?? Which is what my local tack shop did with something geuinely faulty that id bought.

The Sale of Goods Act 1979 has been around for quite a while now and it is disappointing that retailers and manufacturers still seem unaware of its provisions. Under the Act, the consumer clearly has a right to claim against either the manufacturer, retailer or anyone else in the chain of supply for faulty goods. Its the consumer's choice. Equally, in any type of contractual claim, you do have to provide some proof of purchase, but that does not have to be a receipt. The fact that you have Dubarry branded boots means you have the right to claim for faults off Dubarry as the manufacturer if for some reason you do not wish to claim off the shop. Age can also be determined by the wear and tear level on the boots.

Quite frankly, this sort of thing from retailers and manufacturers annoys me so much a couple of times I have just initiated a Small Claim against them (I'm a solicitor) which means they then incur legal fees in dealing with it. I see no reason why Dubarry should not deal with unhappy consumers directly, other than possibly their boots aren't very well made and they would be inundated?

In practical terms OP, I would only go back to the shop if it is convenient to you, otherwise write Dubarry a letter explaining your rights under SOGA 79 and demanding they resolve your problem. Provide evidence such as photographs. If that doesn't work, just sue them - small claims are cheap and easy to do.

Mum has had hers years and they are still tip top, mine are holding up well too.
My JRT chewed mum's laces and I could not get Dubarry to send me any replacements...until I worked the show circuit this summer with chocolate fondue, got on the same party scene as them, made friends with the guys and had them delivered within a week.

I bought a tweed jacket from them. I won't bother again they were so rude to me and my mum! Bit shocked at the attitude to be honest! We have given them alot of custom over the years. You'd think that I was asking them to have it delivered by reindeer or something not send out an order! They got £350 from me, thinking about it, should have told them to forget it!! Know how you feel, really put me off, saw the stand at olympia and it made me a little bit annoyed...! Kat x

Mine have proven to last exactly the same period, having had the same wear and treatment as my mountain horse hi riders - despite being assured when buying that they would last far longer, and at half the price I know what I'll be buying next time.

I'll never buy Dubarrys again, and I'm finding other people starting to say the same.

I got some for my birthday in march, and within a few months the lining on the heels had started to "bobble" i took them back to Derby House who returned them too dubarry - who IME were very helpful - they said that it was a sizing fault (my feet are a funny size!! 5 too small 5.5 too big!!), but they would replace them this time!

My mum had a problem with the soles on one of hers and phoned dubarry (she brought them direct), they were sent back to them and within 48 hours she had a new pair on her feet!

my friends Dubarrys are knackered after only a few years - she wore them alot but still, for that amount of money you'd expect them to last.

I've just bought some toggi canyons, seem good so far. would never pay dubarry price seeing as they dont seem to last past 2 years if you where them a few times a week.

it seems to be when the companys get alot bigger then they think they dont need to bother with good customer service anymore - joules is also shocking now

I was going to say pretty much what H_H has said, she is spot on.

I'd just point out that proof of purchase does not need to be a receipt, a bank or credit cards statement would do the job, I doubt you used cash or cheque for £250 so go onto your internet banking, print out the section of statement (cross out the rest if you prefer) and pop into the shop.

If they refuse to refund you ask to see a manager, and don't be afraid to mention that you will report them to trading standards.

If they are faulty then you are entitled to a refund.

I've had mine about 3 years and they're still in good nick! Don't wear them every day but quite a lot and muck out and ride in them. Only just started using leather cream on them as lady at bramham told me off!

I bought mine at Windsor 5 years ago and they are just looking tired out now after daily use, pee, poo, mud and allsorts! Best £225 I ever spent. I will definitely be replacing mine.

Thank you.
It seems mixes reviews.
My daughters boots are ok, no problem there at all, prob just a fault with mine, but im still going to take them back to the shop, ive tried to get the address to write to Dubarry direct, its difficult to find, if anyone has it?? id appreciate it.

Seeing the number of boots they sell daily at the bigger events its easy to see that they could have become un interested with any problems.
The guy we see all the time is really hard sell, 'standing in a trough of water!'

Id not buy another pair.

I have to say that ive been using my croc boots, surprisingly they have been wonderful to use in the snow, 'perhaps because they are so wide, they are like snow shoes.'
