Dunbar words of wisdom!

While I don't agree with absolutely everything in the article, I do believe that the word 'dominance' gets bandied about far too much.
Most times 'dominant' dogs are just scared, insecure or confused, dogs who are being sent conflicting signals and dogs who are defending themselves from what they perceive as threatening behaviour from humans and other dogs.

I used to think my fella was dominant and 'challenging' me.

He wasn't, he was just insecure and confused, in fact his head was up his backside and once I stepped up and showed leadership (not in an 'I am the alpha, I am the pack leader, you must yield to my power' kind of way, more a 'actually, I will take that decision out of your paws, kiddo' way) he soon settled and is a lot more happy and confident.

I do know some truly dominant dogs and they would make a lot of people pee their pants, cry and want to hide under a rock and never look at another dog again :p
