Early-ish weekend plans

We won’t be going jumping this weekend. Brieze came in from the paddock hopping lame. I burst into tears in the middle of the yard, rang the vets in hysterics thinking she’d broken her leg or something sinister...vet arrives with hoof testers and turns out she has an abscess. I should have known! I have dealt with abscesses before but my brain just clouded over and all sense went out the window. So anyway she’s resting instead so will have to find something else to do with t’other one.

On the plus side - I managed to grab a snuggle with her which she wouldn’t normally tolerate ?

Well I hopped on E the TB for the first time since her back/suspensory injections. Took me 10 minutes to do her girth up ? I think she’s doing a bit too well for a TB in drought! She did well, just wandered up and down the road a bit. Honestly can’t feel much difference to before injecting.

Had a chat about her with my lovely vet friend. She reckons the KS is more an incidental finding at this point. She’ll scan her suspensories for me next week to make sure they aren’t damaged, but is more suspicious of her SI. She agreed she looks amazing, evenly muscled and decent topline. Horses! Honestly ?

One of our local venues has BD tomorrow so I went for an arena hire with dressage boards today with Osi, my 5yo. The white boards didn’t phase her in the slightest the only thing she looked at was the judges box ? Typical!

We ran through a couple of intro tests and a prelim that I can half remember. The intros felt really lovely but we’re still wobbly and can’t canter within the boards so prelims are out for the time being but that’s okay.

She’s starting to get the idea of an outline too but can’t hold it for very long. Partly because everything else is too interesting and MUST be looked at - that’s okay too. She’s getting stronger so that will come with time ?

Love the brain on this horse, so brave, inquisitive and confident but still she really does listen to you.

Northern I hope you get some answers soon.

Well I made it to Somerford. Hurrah! Except I then fell off and broke 2 bones in my ankle. Less hurrah. More bugger, bugger, bugger. Walked around on it for 5 hours saying 'it cant be broken, I can walk!' before deciding I needed to get it checked out. Also had to leave the horses and lorry at Somerford as could not use clutch.

Bloody horses!!!

Oh no! Here’s to speedy healing x

Oh gosh AE you are due some good luck!!! Hope you heal quickly!

Dressage off for me today, black ice on local roads so it's not safe to take the trailer out. If it thaws a little this afternoon then we will hack, otherwise some polework is in order

Just looked out window and thick ice everywhere here too! Think it's to stay cold all day.

AE, hope your ankle heals quickly!

Fiona, we went to flexi eventing yesterday for a nosy. It looks brilliant - so well organised. Its definitely on the list, hopefully we can get transport sorted before it finishes!!

Oh nooooo AE, I am so sorry to hear that. any idea of how long you'll be off games? Trying to fine a positive, if there's a time for you to have a bit of a holiday from riding, now is perfect, by the time the weather is improving, you'll be back on board. Here's to a very speedy recovery

Noooo AE, that is really bad luck. I hope they are just cracked and you are back in the saddle in 6 weeks.

Glad conditions are improving for you Northern, even if the pony is still a worry.

Sheep, your new horse is GORGEOUS!!!

Our week has, yet again, not gone to plan. After finally shaking off the stress of mum not being well, I getting going and managing 2 arena hires and a fabulous lesson, things then went bad for mum again, I was stressed and busy, and my horse was not ridden for a full week.

I had entered a dressage on Wednesday, but that was when she had not been ridden for 7 days, so I did have a ride at home to see if there was a miracle (venue is 100 nerds from my gate!) but although she was ace, by the time she was ridden enough to feel relaxed, she was too tired to actually then go over to use the shared warm-up and do the test. I withdrew and am just happy that I have a nice horse, even if I can't seem to get going with her.

This weekend- yesterday I hacked out! Only the second time since September under saddle, although we have been doing the route in-hand through winter. She is good hacking, but not completely bomb proof, and we have a couple of sets of black and white cobs terrorising the area where they come cantering up the Main Street unexpectedly. Because of this, my darling husband, Mr Red, followed us in the car. She was great with everything, had a moment at a huge bonfire at the side of the road, but the actual fire was the size of a single garage, and she had a hesitation round the corner when she could hear the explosions and we were getting covered in ash, but she could not see it. Once she had had a breath, I asked her forwards again and she walked past it like a champ, albeit a champ with a brush inserted up her backside (as in the way she walked, no one actually chased her with a brush!).

This lunchtime I have another arena hire as everything is frozen here. That will hopefully set us up for our second dressage lesson on Wednesday, which is also my birthday.

Well no hacking for us in the end as it didnt thaw very well but did have a very good schooling session instead.

Hopefully a lighter warmer few days on the way?

Bit of a manic weekend, but a good one.

Rooni went to a show very early doors Saturday. He was excellent! A big distraction out of my control meant he stopped and stood up twice. What happened would have even caught Figs eye so I don’t resent him for it. He only narrowly missed 1st place even with a smattering of deserved low marks for a few movements (66.6%).

The second test was better and how the first was headed prior to the mishap. A PB of 73.27% :)

He was immaculately behaved in the warm up and feels fab. I have posted the test video on the fb if anyone is feeling nosy. Quick nap and then the cinema for me. 1917 is great if anyone wanted a trusty review!

Today I quickly hacked him for a good canter and he was 150% loving it. Good boy. Then I spent the rest of the day with a brill friend and her horse before a yummy Sunday roast. Perfect weekend!

Had a quick hack today to watch this pass us by, throwing up a middle finger in the process as it didn't produce any rain for us

So pleased with L, walk/trot/canters out are becoming more solid and she is relaxed about 80% of the time when going out alone now. I think we're over the bump with that! It's taken some patience but the outcome is definitely worth it :) Time to consolidate some schooling now she can hack out somewhat reliably :D

Oh no AE! Hope it heals soon. The all weather xc was good, Buzz loved shooting along flying over the jumps. They ranged in height from about 50 to 80 so nothing too taxing, he hasn't had a chance to properly stretch his legs for so long so he was pretty tired by the end! The session didn't end well though as my friend's horse landed in a jump somehow (she was the other end of the field to us), fell and half landed on friend who took most of the fall on her chin and leg. She was ok and had to go and get stitches in the flap of skin hanging off her chin and her leg was a bit stiff. Horse was fine! Scary moment when you hear someone screaming when they fall!
The jump was really tiny too, just shows how sometimes these things can just go wrong.
