Early July weekend plans!

I haven't had anything to post on this thread for a few weeks for various reasons but this Sunday Chill and I are finally getting out to a competition. We haven't been out since the 12th of may so going on for two months but I'm keen to try the calming cookies again to determine whether my good experience with them first time was a fluke or not! In the meantime Chill has been doing some fantastic posing and a bit of schooling!

Sounds like some busy weekends of horsing around. I’m a bit lacklustre at the moment so not sure. There a small ht on Sunday but I’m worried the ground is too hard. Will look out for some course hire instead maybe. Or just have a nice relaxed weekend catching up with folks at the yard and preening the pony.

I need something to aim for! I always get a bit meh when I don’t have an ‘event’ in the diary.

Another good lesson last night though. Pole work, walk/canter, lateral work and generally getting him quicker off the aids. And getting me to get my brain into gear quicker! Messages often get delayed from brain to leg, even though there’s really no distance to travel as I’m so short!

Quiet weekend for Rose. I have friends staying ATM so we're walking, eating and drinking and just generally catching up as I haven't seen them for a year On Wednesday OH videoed Rose ridden by my trainer going through my novice DTM floorplan, she obviously gets a much better quality of trot and canter than I do and I want to use it to improve the quality of my own schooling once I have the music as well as aiming for some comps next year. On Thursday I had a polework lesson, which I really enjoyed and so did Rose, it really helps to get her using her back end and I worry about her getting sour with too much schooling. We hacked out on Monday and met a lot of heavy farm traffic as everyone is haymaking like mad so we are keeping off the lanes for a little while. Saturday I am going to Hartpury for the Gala eve, so looking forward to it but it will be very hot!
Have a lovely weekend in this beautiful weather and enjoy your comps and good luck to anyone doing their areas, our local venue is very busy.

More unmounted PC for me and sister, and a quieter weekend for Harry before school teams on Tuesday next week. Will fit in a quick schooling session for Teddy too.

Finally got results from dressage last weekend, Freya and Harry were 8th in their arena out of 38 with 71% and the team one so they're qualified for grassroots regionals at Bicton in August. There was 2% between the top 8, so I'm very proud of her:D:D

Pic of baby Teddy yesterday too:cool:

Quiet one for my boys and I. It's super busy at the riding school where I stable so I don't think we will manage to fit a lesson in tomorrow so I'm thinking of going over to Kelsall Hill for the farm ride or gallops. Then on Sunday I've got a flat lesson with the little cob and a jump lesson with the big cob.

Good luck to everyone competing!

Am at a bit of a loose end, might trundle over to Woolgars for a hack round, fancy coming along?

Come and teach him to be a war horse at mine? :p

Well, he kind of looks the part as a chunky grey. But I’m not sure me toppling off the side with my terrible balance would create quite the right picture?! But what the hell, I’m game. Is this the archery thing? Let me check it out and check the diary.

TFF - you out on Sunday by can’t chance? I have chores to do tomorrow. Woolgars might be a teeny bit far given the m25 but is there one a bit further north than that? I come from the m1 junction but anything around an hour or so is do able for me 😁. But if it’s worth the trip, I can be persuaded 😁😁😁

Ooh that;s a good idea. Not done that yet but Kelsall is not far from me. That would be fun!

I spent yesterday at Perth races. I am never going again! I seem to be a bad luck charm! I havent lead up a winner there in nearly 4 years! Everything I took out and brought back in yesterday was down the field.

Tomorrow I am stewarding then Sunday I have the Welsh Cob and a ginger ninja shetland out at a show. Along with working til 2am.

You can sleep when your dead seems to be my moto at the moment!!

I'm planning on driving up to Newark tomorrow to watch the western show that's on. Catch up with sister in law on Sunday for her birthday. I'm hoping for some good horsey news later next week.

Starting my 3-year old tomorrow.

First time lungeing with bridle/cavesson, roller and lunge whip - the lot! He learned to lunge last year while in confinement with lice, but only on the headcollar with lots of bucking.

Now it's time to get some work done! Still bum-high!! And he needs to learn to keep clean too!

hot hot hot hot hot today.

Kira had a very good lesson this morning but we both expired afterwards o_O Was nice being out of the horseflies in the indoor arena, but it really was pretty airless. Worked on some of the inter1 lines which all came off quite well, I can access the quality trot straight away now which is fab because that should mean that a short warm up will be just as effective. Just have to pay attention to that shoulder-in on the centre line to make sure I get her hind feet on the centre line and don't end up with quarters out by mistake ;)

Then this eve I thought Darcy ought to try standing next to the mounting block. He obviously knows that's a thing so today's lesson wasn't going to take very long. So I ended up putting a foot in the stirrup... and he didn't bat an eyelid so I hopped on. We just tootled round in walk for a few mins and then called it a day, the horseflies were pretty savage and I didn't want him to get upset with them. Anyway, first milestone ticked off

Thanks x

Needless to say, we are all lying about the house this morning, with no motivation to go off anywhere in the lorry.....

Will go and hack out in a bit...

Fiona
haha! not surprising. I think you're allowed a quiet day ;)

We had such lovely weather, we just hacked although did a bit more trotting than planned because M was just furious with the flies!

I spent a couple of hours raking the arena, it's on a bit of a slope and my top rubber surface rolls down the slope leaving too little at the top and too much at the bottom so once a year I even it out. Looks great now so looking forward to schooling on it the next couple of days.

I'm going to pop a few cavaletti this week as my hand is nearly better and I am dying to get out and do a bit of sj

Following his antics with the shoe on Tuesday D has finally been declared rideable! We tried to have a play in the xc field. Supposed to be a nice easy confidence builder for both of us but he came in from the field like he had a taser up his bum and b*ggered off twice (genuine fear not naughtiness because of an event nearby) so I left him to cool off for a few hours before attempting to ride. He still felt on his toes and I completely fell to pieces and rode like a plank but thankfully had a friend on the ground to talk me off the ledge of "I can't bloody do this!"

Did eventually pull myself together somewhat and we finished on a positive with being able to stop and move off with no naughtiness in a nice frame past all the scary XC fences (natural eventer he might not be) and paraphernalia from a recent event. In hindsight neither of us were in a good frame of mind but we left better off than we started so no harm no foul. Actual lesson in there Tuesday so will try again with my big girl pants on... And maybe a swig of something? 😂

Token picture of his big ears and handsome mug. (excuse the bit I do have a smaller one on order)

A year ago the big fella jumped his first competitive jumping round in the 90cm arena Eventing at Barbury.

Roll in 12 months and he’s back where it started! This time rubbing hooves with the big boys.

He was awesome in the dressage to be in the 20’s in good company. This year, for the first time they sj’ed the novices in the main arena, talk about throwing him in at the deep end! He jumped super. Had a bad slip before 3 so understandably took that, then had his obligatory one in the treble 😁
That put him out of the top placings and we deliberated whether to run Xc or not. The ground was firm but had good grass cover so we decided to give him a steady school round. It was a huge track and he ate it up and came home with only 6 time despite just hacking round.

One big dude! And so close to being in the prizes
