Easter weekend plans

Well I've not made an appearance in here for quite some time. I haven't even been on board since last July and have hardly done any schooling let alone competing since I got Nelson just over 3 years ago. However since turning out onto a rested field, Nelson has got incredibly fat (and I've started losing weight) so I've been back in the saddle this week. Nelson has been such a good boy, I'm hacking out, taking it easy to build up fitness for both of us, also he's barefoot now so I need to see how his feet hold up. I also need to put my portable gas shower together and give them both a bath, George is looking very moth eaten and Nelson has some serious wind knots in his far too long mane so I'd like to detangle and shorten that as well.
Sorry to everyone who can't see their horses at the moment, it must be very difficult for you all.
MP this baby seems to be taking ages to be ready!

Apart from work, plan is to record an online longrein test, and trec rounds.
Plus hack at least twice.
Did longrein hack last night, and trotted up the hills - blooming knackering!

Schooling and hacking for me. Keeping in contact with my trainer who's trying to keep us progressing as best she can. I'm determined that both the horses will have stepped up a level by the time the lockdown ends. Tack, horses and stables etc. are cleaner than they have been for a while but not so sure about the house!!

Feel incredibly fortunate to have the horses at home and be able to potter around outside with them as much as I like and feel so sorry for all those unable to see their horses or even spend time in a garden.

Yard is on complete lockdown so sadly no riding or 'pony patting' for me :(. Have been trying to keep riding fit with a daily walk and half an hour of Pilates. Have fallen by the wayside with Easter weekend and am spending my time sitting in the sun, drinking and eating too much

I got inspired this morning and set up a little Trec PTV course for the ponies, 10 obstacles to do in hand or long reining. OH said he would film so I asked him to wait while I " trained" them. No training needed! Both perfect in hand first time. The coloured will be ok to long rein but small brown furry thing is a different matter so that will keep me occupied for the rest of the week end.

I’m done for the week and just getting on with yard jobs for the rest of the weekend!

Rooni has been FAB recently:

Today I got up at 4.30 to get the yard done and be on Rooni by 5.45 which is the earliest I can hack atm - he is not good with traffic.

A speedy trot 2 mins round the corner to the track up next doors farm. We only met a cyclist! And he was great, didn’t put a toe out of line.

Back to picking up rubber kicked out the school for me! I have stained all the doors with my dad and also washed the windows. Fig is doing well but has lymphangitis in a hind leg now! Can’t win!

Glad fig is feeling better, hopefully the lymphamgitis is short lived!

Our daily lunging is paying off, M is much improved already after only 2 sessions, I think he had just forgotten how to do it properly lol

Lovely day. Bathed Dolly in glorious weather and we set up an arena on grass for some test practice. Then a gallop in the fields though they are getting a bit hard now so we need rain really.

Day off for Amber but I've got new exercises to play around with from my RI who is reviewing video clips for me. Mahoosive family Zoom session for Easter breakfast too including family members from Shanghai and Australia!

And the 5 of us at home are on day 3 of an epic Risk game. Which I'm winning. Huzzah!

Did some field fettling followed by painting the front of the barn (the rest will have to wait as have run out of paint), and then finished off with a quick schooling session with Arts doing the weekly training exercise posted by Wheels. I've had a funny/busy week and haven't ridden her for a few days (can't think now how many ?), and she nickered at me when I walked in carrying her saddle ??.

I've caught the sun but all in all a lovely day. Going to attack some brambles and take pebbles for a walk tomorrow morning, and then we are forecast thunderstorms for the afternoon, so big family zoom sessionight have an atmospheric back drop!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend x

@milliepops Salty's tummy is the size I reckon mine will be by the end of lockdown ?

We had a lovely quiet hack this morning and we'll do some flatwork tomorrow. Monday's activities are bathing and a massage session for Harry, disappointingly no such perks for me ? Well, not the massage part anyway.

Lol michen I'm actually trying to teach my connie spanish walk right now - he loves it but probably because he gets treats when he tries very hard

? I've been teaching my connie jambette too...I'll have to get a picture now, although I fear I look completely ridiculous doing it

Oh cool AE what exercises are you doing with Amber?

I think the universe wants me to do transitions! The HHO challenge involves transitions. Then my RI also asked me to try and find as much range as poss within the pace - making the walk so slow she moves one step at a time ( still in a rhythm) and then march on and make the walk as big as possible. In the trot take the trot as slow as poss so she is almost trotting on the spot and then make the trot as big as you can and the same in canter. And then an unconnected friend sent me a clip of Guy Robertson doing transitions which sort of combine the HHO exercise with what my RI wanted - he also explored the range and worked on the half halts and then you quietly come down into halt or energise and activate ('pick up your horse') and allow the trot.

I've entered 3 E Rider dressage classes this month too so I will see what judges make of Amber and hopefully get some useful feedback.

I did my first Medium test, online dressage with a local venue. I was pleased to get 63.6%, since my half passes weren’t as good as usual.
The little cob did an elementary for 64%, which I was a little disappointed with as I felt he did a nice test. My canter to trot across the diagonal was a little late, and my canter got a little fast towards the end, so I think those things cost me. I don’t know the judge or the other riders so I can’t assume he/she is cob-ist ?

I’m going to do the e-riders online dressage at the end of this month, medium 71 for the big lad, E49 and E50 for the little one.

I've mainly been hacking. Helped one of the yard kids with her loan pony today just while shes instructorless, got her riding a bit more positively which was nice.
I've entered prelim and novice e riders, need to film prelim and practise the novice. Supercob has not done a novice before, hes not really ready but the crap bits are the same crap bits as prelim tests so we may as well see if the good bits can still be good when it's more complicated

Well I have only ridden once all weekend. We did indeed get the field sorted (at least the main bit before there was a tractor malfunction which stopped play ) the big gap which Millie had used to go on a rampage next door is now fully stock fenced and the hedge has been knocked back about 10m. A good job done.

Had planned to do the HHO clinic exercise with both horses today but Kira was not in the right frame of mind and then it was blowing a hooley for Darcy and I wimped out :p Neither have done anything since the middle of last week so we will try again tomorrow. Instead Kira and I cooked up a short arena floorplan just about squishing an inter 1 freestyle in, ready for an online show. Just need to get her on side for a video session now.

Pretty pony in the sunshine, she's going really blotchy now as summer coats are coming through :)

Rounded off my Easter long weekend with a visit from the vet ?
My friend turned our wee mare out for me last night, we brought her in again after a couple of hours and she wasn't quite right - off hind swollen and although weight bearing she was quite reluctant to fully put her weight on it. On reflection my friend said she did walk slowly to the field but she didnt really notice anything untoward.
Mare was only out with our old gelding so I don't think he is to blame. Suspect she has hurt it either in the stable or on Sunday when she was out in field all day.
Anyway when I went up at 6am this morn she was still uncomfortable, so phoned vet who came out at about 8.30am. Would rather play it safe! No sign of abscess, so she had a quick jab of painkiller of some kind. Now just going to box rest (+ danilon) and will review Thurs/Fri.
Horses eh!!! I suspect it's a protest at the suggestion of bringing her back into work ?

Oh no Sheep, hope it’s nothing too serious!

Slightly proud post, clipped L today! I’ve never clipped a horse in my life, don’t think it came out too badly! Pony was amazing, I think she enjoyed it ?

Bank Holiday has mostly been lots of gardening, a few BBQs and some riding, so rather nice really in this current climate :-}
I am now officially on foal watch, the mares official due date was 12th April and foal moved round into position last friday, she has colostrum , so we are foal watching - exciting but stressful as could be a few days or a week yet we just have to wait !! picture of her two weeks ago , can't upload today's for some reason as was taken from the cctv camera
