I sold a rug on Ebay a couple of weeks ago, it was a brand new Rhino turnout with hood, unopened, still in it's bag.

It had been sat around for ages and never been used so I thought I may as well sell it to get me a bit of pocket money, I started it at 99p and was really pleased with the price it made.

Got back from Holiday today to find a case has been opened against me as the rug is apparently damaged, the buyer has contacted Horseware and a well know horsey website (not sure why she would do that) and they have told her the rug is damaged (fitting in the wrong place or something like that).

So am I right in thinking I'm going to have to refund her for the rug? Do I refund the postage as well? I don't have the receipt for the rug but is it likely that horseware will send me a replacement if I send it back to them?

I was hoping to buy a rug my horse actually needs with the money so am not best pleased!

Im a bit of an ebayer myself can get lots of pony stuff for my daughter there!!!

Anyway the person who bought the rug needs to send the rug back to you before you refund, it should be sent back to you by a post with tracking, then you refund them the price of the rug and the postage, if the rug was damaged before you sent it really you should refund the return postage too!! Do not refund till you have the rug back they may be trying it!!

If your buying a rug yourself for yours can you not get horseware to send you a rug that suits your horse?

|Ebay themselves have a refund and it can be really helpfull.

Hope this helps.

Have you asked for photos of the "damage"?

You'll need to send it back to whoever you bought it from. Your contract is with them, not directly with Horseware, they don't sell directly to the public. How long ago did you buy it?

There is a difference between it being damaged and it not fitting properly in the right places

I'd ask the buyer for more info and some photos - they must have sent photos to Horseware to get confirmation that the rug was faulty??

Galaxy - I bought it over a year ago and can't even remember which website it was from :( Will ask for photos of the damage, I didn't think of that thanks.

Zoe - Thanks for that, I did think that was the way it would have to go :(

I can't help thinking I may not get back the exact rug I sent out :(

Don't despair... If it's damaged but still usable (and the buyers just being fussy ;) ), you may still get some good money for it on ebay if you relist it stating the problem and showing photos of it.

They have probably bought it, tried it on and doesn't fit so trying to get their money back?!!?

Did you state on your listings "No Refunds"? It's an option you can click when listing your items?

However if this was me (and I'm a bit of a soft touch) I would tell them to keep the rug and either offer them some compensation, to save the hassle of having the rug back or ask them to return he rug (at their cost) once you have the rug back to refund their money including the P&P.
At least you will have a rug to sell again, of course listing the fault so the buyer is aware.

Ask them for images of the damage to check they aren't pulling a fast one.

I would question why they didn't raise this with you before moaning to Ebay about you. I know if i have an issue i try to resolve with the seller first but i suppose some people are like that.

As a dispute has already been raised i would contact Ebay and tell them that the rug as far as you were aware was new etc. Don't ignore the messages from Ebay otherwise you could get yourself a ban.
Contact Ebay and put your side of the story across and let Ebay decide what you need to do regarding refunds etc.

You'd be surprised how often this happens! A good tip for sellers is to take photographs of the item before they post it. These will carry a date and are proof that the "damage" occurred after it the item was posted. Unfortunately there are people who buy on Ebay with the sole intention of being troublesome.
