how long would you wait before you started to worry?

Basically, I bought a saddle on Ebay for a lot of money earlier this week. Listing said first class post. I paid for it immediately. Then got a message from seller saying they would post "within a couple of days" First bad feeling.
I've sold a couple of saddles on Ebay for over £600 and always posted next day, with guaranteed, insured next day delivery and have always let buyer know tracking number and when to expect the saddle.
So I asked seller after a couple of days to confirm that saddle had been posted and asked for tracking number. Got reply saying it hadn't been posted but would be posted today. Just got another message saying it hadn't been posted today, but would be posted on Monday. I am now getting very jittery as this saddle has cost a lot of money. How long should I leave it bearing in mind Christmas holiday. Luckily I have paid by credit card by Paypal, so should be able to get money back.

I sold mine on eBay last Sunday posted it parcel force 48 hour on Tuesday because it was cheaper than standard parcels!! I think it sounds a bit dodgy- to not provide a reason especially when they could have sent it quickly to ensure you got it in time for Christmas. I would be annoyed.

I would be annoyed at that! I have sold a few saddles on ebay and always post within 48 hours and send by DHL. I am useless at remembering to get a box though!

Did seller have good feedback? When I've sold saddles (or anything else for that matter) I've always posted it the following day....fingers crossed for you.

I would put it down to being time of year and not high on their agenda. If you have paid via credit card and paypal, then don't worry. As frustrating as it is to wait for something you want and paid a lot for. Just leave feedback accordingly once you do receive it and it might give them a kick up the bum to be a bit more efficient in future.

personally Iwouldnt purchase a saddle on ebay, unless i could try for fit first. Saying that, won a treeless saddle a few months ago, (had borrowed and tryed a friends first) but it was fairly local (within 25 miles) so paid cash on collection.

I really wouldn't worry, at least they are being honest! People are busy at this time of year even though it is a pain for you, and people have full time jobs which makes taking a large item to the post office difficult. With eBay I would expect something to take 3-4 days to get posted, they're private sellers not businesses. It would have been nice if they could get it in before Christmas shutdown though!

I ordered a saddle from my saddler and was told 3-4 weeks, 6 weeks later....

Whoops .when you pay for something through paypal by credit card it takes 7 days for the transaction to be confirmed. If you are worried ring your cc provider and stop the transaction.

probably just stuck in xmas post, i bought something on the 10th dec and even though they said posted it that day it didnt arrive til 10 days later, dont know whether they were economical with the truth or the post really is that slow but i was panicking for a while as it wa san xmas pressie! Give them until at least the time specified on the auction, then email saying still not received, do you have tracking number etc etc. If either no reply or no helpful advice after that go down the paypal dispute line, sometimes the threat of a dispute is all it takes to get there arse in gear, and if it doesnt 10 days later you'll get your money back anyway

I expect it is just the time of year - seller is probably very busy. Not a very good excuse but don't stress. I daren't ask the question though - how did you pay?

I bought a saddle a few years ago from ebay (it was however 1/4 the price of the one you have paid for).

I was getting worried about the length of time it was taking for the seller to send it so I looked her up on directory enquiries and called her up and explained my concerns. Funnily enough it was posted the next day special delivery (I think she was just being lazy!)

They probably wanted money for christmas so the least theycan do is post it promptly!

I'd give them a message to ask them to send the tracking details once sent on Monday as you'd like the saddle for a competition next weekend

You are 100% covered by PayPal, but you have to wait a bit before opening a dispute.

Some people are just hopeless and it means you need a box big enough, materials to pack it and arrange a courier

I understand you want it asap, but don't worry too much now

You've got upto 45 days to raise a dispute, so I'd jsut put it down to them being busy with Christmas.

Hopefully they'll post it very soon.

EBay rules give the seller 7 days to post it after you've paid. If they're private sellers then I wouldn't panic, as others have said its Xmas they're probably busy. Don't worry if it isn't posted by a tracked method either. That's upto the seller whether they want to insure the parcel for loss/damage , your insurance is Paypal. You have 45 days to file a not received dispute with Paypal, so give it a fair chance to arrive but if it doesn't, don't let the seller stall you beyond the 45 days, or you can't claim.

I sell a lot online and my main priority is my own life. I post things at my convenience. People are getting my items at a fraction of the purchase price. I'm not a business and won't run about trying to keep people happy. I always pack well and of course always post things, I'm not a scammer. But if people want an instant transaction they can go to a darn shop (and pay the prices)! I think a lot of people have very unrealistic expectations of private individuals selling second hand items.

I am sure they are busy but they weren't too busy to list it and make sure they got their Christmas money
For all they knew this could have been a Christmas present!
I doubt they would be so understanding if OP kept sending messages promising to pay soon

OP I don't think you have any choice to wait but I would probably apply a gentle sense of urgency to your next message as the week between Christmas and new year can also be busy for people

I purchased a saddle a few months ago for £200 off eBay. I took over 4 weeks to come with constant e mails to the seller. It came in the end and was fine, just think it was low on their priorities to post. I was really worried though!

In your purchased items, click the drop-down box, select resolve a problem and go through the "item not received" procedure. Once you do this, Ebay sends the seller an email asking them why it's not been posted. It will also let you know when you can open a dispute. It might hurry them along and i'd reflect your panic in the feedback you leave!
