eBay seller to avoid

I have a previous thread on a dodgy rug. Thoughts were he was just too hot. It was making him sweat under. So I held off and didn’t use. Bitterly cold. He was cold in 200grn standard neck. This is 200grm combo and the same sweat/wet under the rug. A friend tried the same rug on her fully (newly) clipped horse who had a combination of rugs on warmer than this rug and again the same issue.

This seller will not do anything as I bought the rug the end of august. I have tried saying I didn’t need a mw rug in august and the issue became apparent when it was used. But she won’t budge as it is after their 30 day return policy.

I agree they have a 30 day returns. But the rug is faulty. If I had put on in august/September and he had sweated I would have been told it’s august and he is too hot! When rug started to be used 2 months after buying it became apparent it was faulty. And as faulty I have always been told you go back to seller who then if needed can escalate to manufacturer. Not just a plain they will do nothing about it.

I will contact wb next.

30 day policy is fair and reasonable.

It's also hard to prove what you are claiming because there is no visual damage and no way to prove breathability, or lack of, without some form of testing.

You didnt use the product until approx 60 days after purchase and you didnt cease using it when you thought it was faulty. Based on your previous thread you have used the rug at least twice more and in this thread another horse has also worn it.

When you enter into an agreement by purchasing an item you agree to those terms and conditions. The T&Cs havent changed since you purchased the rug.

I think it is really unfair of you to "name and shame" in this way.

When I worked in a Saddlery if someone wanted to return a rug 3mths after purchase when it had been used multiple times with no visible fault the company line would have been exactly the same. If you'd used it once and stopped when you thought it was faulty that might have been different.

I bought a premier equine rug and put it on the day after it arrived. It literally fell apart as I turned the horse out. I took the rug off and contacted PE with photos and receipts. Their customer service was non existent and I've never bought from them since and would never recommend. So I do know what it is like to have an expensive fault item but IMO your continued use, for whatever reason, negates your right to bad mouth a company

But it was not in constant use! I asked for advice and was told he was simply too hot. I also emailed the seller at this point, so I emailed them as soon as I saw there was an issue and they were not interested. So I thought fair enough maybe he is too hot. So I left it until a really cold day and had the same issue. So maybe he is still too hot which is why tried it with a different horse to try and work out if he was simply too hot or not. Same issue.

I should have taken pictures of him when i took it off. But then you could say how do we know it isn’t THAT rug causing the issue.

I’m not sure how I am meant to test it when I get it when it is warmer?

It’s standard to have a 30 day returns policy. I don’t think it’s at all unreasonable of the company to refuse to take back a used product after triple this time and it is, perhaps, a little unfair to name them as a trader to avoid.

I’m not sure why you think the rug is dodgy. It’s been cold here, but my clipped horses are still in no-fills and my unclipped is out unrugged. I don’t think it’s odd that an unclipped horse may be sweating in a 200g.

A rug’s breathability (or lack thereof) can’t cause a horse to sweat though. It can mean that the sweat isn’t able to evaporate as easily, but if the rug was a suitable weight for the conditions, the horse wouldn’t be sweating in the first place to need it to be wicked away. It’s the weight of the rug that would cause the sweating. Just because a horse doesn’t appear damp in a really breathable rug of the same weight doesn’t mean he wasn’t sweating - just that the sweat may have been wicked away more effectively.
(I’m of the age where I remember those hideous, heavy canvas New Zealand rugs, which most definitely weren’t breathable ?).

Regardless of the reasons, I think the bottom line is that you’ve left it too long and used the product too much to reasonably expect the seller to accept a return.

TBF we did have two lightweights (same brand) that seemed to cause the horses to sweat whatever the temperature outside.
They were demoted to the show box for temporary rain covers.
I find the same with some jackets.

The rug has not been used too much! I think it has been on a horse for 5 days!!!

It took me a couple of tries to make the connection. 3 days in total. At which point I contacted seller. I decided he was too hot after discussing on here. He then didn’t wear it until 2 days ago. Sweat/damp/whatever evident then. So tried in another horse who is fully clipped had been in MORE rugs that this and the same effect on that horse.

Please can you tell me HOW I could have known there was an issue with it in august when I bought it. If I had put it on then it would have been too warm. HOW am I meant to know there is an issue before using it??

Well that's the risk you take by purchasing winter rugs in the summer. Chalk it down to a life experience and move on I would say!

I had a (new uniform) shirt that I could not wear at work as it was not breathable. I would sweat. The sweat would not evaporate.

Previous uniform shirts had not caused that problem.

I'm with Kamikazi --- I reckon the material of that rug probably doesn't breath.

Granted you guys seem to be having a hotter than usual time over there for the time of year, but I'm still suspicious of that rug.

I’m sure it’s a duff rug. I can see two sides to this. The company can have a 30 day returns policy. But I think you have consumer rights for product to be fit for use for 12 months. So could take that route. But the company you bought from liquidating, possibly means this this won’t work.

An email to the rug brand with retailer details, copy of invoice seems worth a try.

Is it possible that it is not a genuine WB?
I have had some similar issues with wb. They have become quite poor over the last few years and I do t buy them anymore. They were always my first choice and the older models still are, but the latest onrs are crap, fit too tight when they were perfect and roomy, straps to short so had to buy extensions and tie two leg straps together and use as a tail strap.

It is a Saxon rug. I realise they are budget rugs. But I have a 300grn one that has been brilliant and dosnt rub his mane so thought I would buy another. It was sold as waterproof and breathable, I double checked that.

I have no idea if the business has gone out of business. But there are still items for sale on their eBay page. Seller has ignored my last message asking how I was meant to test the rug when I got it.

Part of my grumble with them is how they have dealt with the issue. I messaged as soon as I saw the issue and it was basically met with “tough”.

Expensive mistake made.
