I've been using My Hermes who 99% of the time get it right but dear god when they don't its a nightmare.
They currently want me to drive to Essex from Gloucestershire to pick up a parcel which tbf i put the wrong address on. I figured they could at least return it to a local parcel shop for me to pick up and re-post but that's not possible because I need to print the label and stick it on the parcel!

What other company is good and reasonably priced for things like horse rugs etc?

I used ipostparcels recently to send a saddle, cheapest by far with decent level of insurance. All very easy :)

I'm actually using Royal Mail most of the time now; if you check the prices (and don't bother with a signature for lower value sales) then they're working out quite reasonable.

I use RM too, often second class signed for.
If the parcel is too big to be a 'small package' then it goes myhermes as that is a bit more convenient for me than my nearest collectplus.
Myhermes incompetence got me a free pair of jeffries calfskin stirrup leathers anyway so ;)

For big parcels I use parcelforce 48, surprisingly reasonable, and myhermes for small items. i like both as you pay a bit more and they come to my workplace and collect them. Works fine till the receptionist accidentally gives a myhermes package to the royal mail postman...whole world of grief that caused!

Trust me, when selling items on eBay you need some way of tracking them, second class post isn't good enough. There are far too many scammers that claim they haven't received the parcel. If you've sent it by "normal" post you can't prove they've received it, and you have to refund them

For smaller things I've gone back to Royal Mail, I used to use My Hermes, but they lost a parcel of mine last year and were really rubbish at sorting it out and actually informing me it had been lost!

I will NEVER use MyHermes again.
They 'lost' a brand new saddle I sold and then claimed it had been delivered. Eventually they refunded me some money but I still had to return the buyer the full purchase price so I ended up loosing money.
I think I aged at least 20 years in the month long episode trying to get my money back.
I have had great service from dpd and of course trusty Royal Mail.

Whoever is cheapest with least hassle (often Royal Mail) except UK Mail who are so hopeless in delivering that I now won't buy from sellers I know use them unless they will do an alternative and consequently would never send things with them either.

I've always used collect plus and never had any problems. They're significantly cheaper than Royal Mail but every parcel is still tracked and has arrived on time and in the same condition it was sent. You just need to check there's a drop off point near you.

I usually check prices on parcel2go and pick from there. Recently sent a saddle by Parcelforce 48hr. Cost less than £25 including insurance. I also like DPD.

i use royal mail for small parcels and then pick from parcel2go for the rest. Different courriers work out better for different places. Ups drop off service is relatively cheap for next day delivery and the most reliable ive found so far. Hermes is the cheapest and ive had very few problems with them, if you go on parcel to go you can pay i think 80p for a signed delivery. Over the 9 years ive run my business we do have on occasions problems. I avoid yodel as i find they tend to leave parcels anywhere..including rubbish bins (then the customer claimed they had been emptied that day) I checked the local council website and it was nt bin day so i made him feel guilty but still did nt have a leg to stand on. Royal mail lost four in one go totalling about £1200 of losses with an impossible claiming system. Generally things rarely go wrong with any of them but when it does it is a nightmare to resolve regardless of who you use. Their claims systems are set up to make it really awkward to get the full value back.

Royal Mail - I refuse to use any other form of courier due to abysmal customer service and incompetence. I will also not buy from sellers who send via alternative couriers. Fussy maybe, but I've had too many bad experiences and lost items to trust them again!
