While I was in the stable last night, busy brushing Mr M’s tail I kept hearing this strange noise, I glanced up towards his dock and leaned back slightly….just in case he was releasing any unwanted pressure (like they do) as the sound effect could of easily passed as horse fart but no nothing was coming out, no foul smell and no sudden warm draft

So I kept brushing away and then I heard it again, ummm what the hell is it?

I thought to myself.

Mr M turned his head to look at me (perhaps he thought I was letting one go…who knows) and then he shifted his weight from one back foot to the other and THEN in the corner of my eye, out scuttled a huge fat juicy Rolland the rat, with a limp and squint it looked up right up at me in disgust as if to say ''OH THANKS!!, finally one of you moved off my god dam foot!’’

Mr M was highly intrigued by this point and bent down to say hello to Rolland the rat, while I frantically jumped up and down screaming…

flinging my pink bushes across the stable while performing ‘the hot coal dance’.

I was half expecting to find Rolland hanging off the end of Mr M’s nose but thankfully he scuttled under the stable door and made a bid for freedom.

Perhaps I might see him again this evening hobbling around on a pair of crutches

Eeeeuuuuuuuuugggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh. I would have been exactly the same with flinging and dancing!

I remember finding a squashed one in the morning one day, that was bad enough. It had a big 16.3hh Shire x hoofprint across the middle!

OMG i would have hit the roof, i hate rats and mice they always make me jump when they scatter around, luckily ive never seen the yard rat that people keep telling about, only seen ickle mice.Phew. Have ran from the locker room screaming many of times. hate them!

Yuk, would have run a mile. Our yard cat caught a rat the other day. I found it in a stable with it guts hanging out. later that day all that was left was it head. *vomit* Needless to say the cat had a feast *vomit again*

Well the only ones I see on our the yard usully are the ones hanging out of the terriers mouth screaming blue murder....for all off 5 seconds!!!

I must admit I don't like them but I don't like to see them being killed neither, I do feel a bit sorry for them, perhaps I'm a bit too soft

OMG, I hate mice but rats are even worse! I turned round one evening to find this little guy trying to hitch a ride :S

Eeeeeewwwww! I hate rats!!!! I'm always finding squished ones in my stables, my horse buries them quite nicely.

I put my hand in a bag of feed one morning and one ran up my arm, underneath my chin and jumped off my shoulder

chetnut-mare that is so sweet!!!awwwww!

dont mind mice really, the cats keep them out the tack room and all the feed is in bin so they cant get in so the worst they do is make a nest in the furthest corner of the stack of shavings bales. there arent that many of them as the cats are real semi feral hunters.

rats make me cringe a bit, they are so bold! iv only ever seen 2 on the yard and they look at you as id to say "yeah, and, bovvverd?"
i once found one that had tried to make a nest in one of the banks of shavings, i obviously disturbed it forking the bank up and it went wriggling round the edge of the stable, still in the bank and heading for the door....i did the hot coals dance and yelled, father came running and clobbered it with a shovel as it exited the stable! gross, but im glad we got it.

i dont mind mice, but rats i cant stand. we bought a really heavy duty rat trap once looked like a scaled down bear trap! (we used to have seriously big rats on our yard - you could almost see them flexing their muscles at you!) we'd put it down one night and the next morning it had gone. it wasnt until we were using the last of our hay months later did we find it, completely dismantled and chewed in the barn and not a dead rat in site!!

Moral of the story - always keep your feed in bins, or give the bag a kick before putting your hand in!!

mice are cute rats are horrible!!! At my old yard there were so many that I'd find one in my water bucket most mornings!!!!One actually chased me around the yard once and it could run faster than me too!!!

Sorry, but the ickle mouse hitching a ride is just too cute ! The worse thing re rats that happened to me (so far) was out poo picking. On 3 occasions over 3 weeks, picked up a poo (in my gloved hand) to find a dead rat UNDER it... can only think that as the farmer had been poisoning them, they'd died in the field and our horses were poo'ing on top of them... Needless to say dead OR alive I cannot stand wild rats, they give me the eebie jeebies, I no longer poo pick even with gloved hands, its scoop and fork these days !!

We have a couple of farm cats and a multitude of farm dogs, most of them for hunting. Also a very lovely, but can be scary, YO and her hunting husband. We also had a very dead and flat rat the other day, none of the above would move or touch it! My OH moved it!

A friend's horse delights in standing on them, just their tails, and watching them try to get away. Friend comes along and hits them over the head with a shovel.

OMG that is so cute! I am a true fluffy person. I really don't mind any animal inc. rats mice. x

Ewwww I hate rats, found one burried in the muck heap dead as a dodo last week, promptly covered it back up again!! Then another appeared dead on the lawn, my friend flung it somewhere with a pitchfork, was very funny, all you could see was this rigor mortis rat flying through the air hehe.

I like mice though, they are cute
grin.gif

I don't mind mice, think they're cute! But really don't like rats!
Me and my Dad once found a nest and it was a team effort, dad threw a stone at one, while i jumped up and down screaming while hitting it with a shovel!

My Dad also once put his hand in my pony's water bucket to scoop out the hay on top before putting it down the drain, then wondered what a furry hard thing he felt was. Looked there were 2 dead rats in there that he'd touched!!!!!

I dont like mice or rats, haven't seen a rat at this yard but my last one was totally infested and they were big! We had our bins on crates and I dropped a knife one day, bent to pick it up and there was one down there, eurgh makes me shiver. Another livery took the cover off a feed bucket and there was one in there that run up her arm, she only had a vest on as well! We also had mice in the same tack room as rats, I always thought you wouldnt find them together but they were! I now have mice in my tack room, I dont mind them too much but I hate their poo being everywhere.
