I wasn't expecting it to be as much as it is (me being thick!) so was quite shocked when I opened it!

Total (Not including today's call out!) is £350 and with today's call out will be about £470

Couldn't have come at a worst time, my (not very old) car died a few weeks ago which cost me £500 to fix

and I've just got back from holiday (now wishing I hadn't gone!) where we managed to spend more then we planned!

Bl00dy horses, please remind me why we do it

I opened mine this morning...

from one visit... £700 thank you very much! It hurts a LOT so can sympathise!

and... my OH wants to GO on holiday... so if i dont I will be devorced, so need to come up with a plan to get some money fast... any ideas???? xx

Yikes what was that for? Hope your horse is OK!

I think I would have fainted if mine had been anymore then it is! At least mine was for a few call outs rather then just one.

Ooooo so glad i'm not alone!

I got mine this morning over £700 and his plaster cast comes off tomorrow (fingers crossed and vibes he's ok pretty please)

So no doubt i will be getting another nice bill next month and he is 22 so not covered by insurance ouch!!!

Horse's who would have them!

Thanks hun,

blocks, xrays, scans, sedation (more sedation!), then I go and get another for £115 for a set of shoes to try and help!

Im trying not to think about it all too much as I will just go into stress mode!!

Wine is helping!! xx

Yes thank god.
first year he did his curb ligament 2nd year spavin op and mild tendon tear. Then he stood on 4 inch nail out hacking and ruptured a tendon after accident. He also managed a splint and fracture from field kick. The last part of bill was coffin joint soft tissue injury. He was only 8 when I retired him.Decided to give him few years off with what will be his new owner (I will gift him to her one day as he has home for life) on 6 acre field which will give him best chance to recover.Think he had been hammered as ex racer and his body needs time to heal.

Oh my...well I haven't yet received my bill I dearnt know how much it's going to be seeing my boy wasn't insured at 21 no-one covers for illness......he had severe colitis...and after a week of intensive care scans, bloods, more scans, more bloods etc etc....he sadly was PTS last week.....I would pay the earth to have him back here with me though...sadly I can't I just have to pay the reminants of the bill...as I'm also having his ashes back ina casket.....christ knows who I am going to pay this yet, as currently out of job and hubby just joinging army....so were totally skint at mo.....oh well it will be paid at the end of the day...they did everything they could to help my poor boy out....so I guess they deserve to have a new car or whatever!!!

;=((((

yes they did...i'm very grateful to them really....and after todays actions has made me proud to the fact that I loved him soooo much and I knew he loved me too...we were best friends some people said that I wrapped him up in cotton too much....
Today just made me realise what i actually did for my boy and also my lil mare...and how lucky I am to still have her....knowing she's also spoilt rotten!!!
Just hope Carrot and spud are now spoilt rotten too......
I have his rugs that I don't know what to do with, so may see if they require them to help these guys out...i have nice soft fleeces that won't hurt there tiny frames...

I think can trump these!!

Today's vet bills, *hopefully* *mostly* to be covered by insurance, just under £1300

Yesterday's (not covered by insurance) around £53

That just settled (thank god for insurance) about £4300

That to pay from last one not covered by insurance £958.35

Still WAY more to come...

and looks like the horse shall be LOU and even with twice the value she is insured for, I wouldn't be able to replace her as a ride, but nothing shall replace how much I love her......

Yikes, all these bills are making my £470 look rather pathetic

Sorry to hear your horse may become a LOU, what is the problem with her?

She started being a little backy about a year ago. (never even refused a fence, or off her work

)

We got a referral to Rossdales, and their diagnostics, as we suspected kissing spine. After many tests, the conclusion was damage to both hind suspensory ligaments and ligament damage to her back.

She had an op, a stay in the vet hospital, further check ups on both back legs, and a few shockwave treatments on her back. What isn't covered is 50% of hospital stay costs, and the excess on the insurance. However, on top of that is that whilst on boxrest she caught me both feet in the face, breaking all the bones it in, damage though to the brain and putting me in hospital. I have hardly worked since (this was 2 days before xmas), am still recovering, and had to send her away on full livery for the best part of 3 months.

Then two weeks ago today, she stumbled in walk work, and was admitted to hospital. Xrays showed that she has serious osteoarthritis in her fetlock and hence the blood vessels in it were enlarged, and ruptured when she stumbled. She spent a week in hospital and in now home attempting to rest her in a small paddock, but that is not going too well...

She is my horse of a lifetime, a dream come true, who I blew my inheritance on, and at the moment I can only look forward to getting her field sound and being a brood mare.

She has not long turned 8.

I now have a broken horse, a scarred face, am fat
tongue.gif
, have no job, no uni, it has cost me thousands I'm not able to claim for in insurance, and I have debilitating headaches and injuries every day....

FML!

Hmmmm.... Think mine is at about £1750 so far and no idea how much will be paid by insurance. Hopefully some will but definitely not all of it. Maybe none of it. I am just praying we get to the bottom of it all.

Hi believe it or not you have just made me feel better about my bill it was £200 for my mare who has to be on Bute full time (and that was just one call out and the bute) the vet said she cant forward the bute in 6 months as they must see the horse every six months for on going treatment, and to me £200 every 6monthe pluss her other bits and pieces she needs is getting too much, shes a 21yrs old mare who i love to bits, thank god my vets do a payment scheme so i can pay it off a little every month:)

Wanna swap? I send a minimum of £250 to my vet each and every month - and I've been doing that for years
frown.gif
I could have paid off my mortgage by now and to cap it all, my horse is no longer ridden so doesn't even earn her keep in any way!!

last 18 months on River 8k and counting and the final insurance claim runs out in November!! two already have eeek....

I pray he doesnt get another ulcer once its run out as at £300 per week for the medicine I dont know how I'd afford it!!!

Thankfully despite all the vet and farrier predicitions he's still here and now being ridden, and feeling so well on our 'gentle' hack on Wed he was jogging most of the way, cantering on the spot and generally causing havoc!!!

A nice bottle of cheap wine to all with broken horses and massive vets bills... I feel your pain...

Just found a brilliant new vet who has set up in our area, for emergency colic call out Wednesday, treatment, injections waiting nearly two hours to make sure we had turned the corner, the bill came to £90.00.

Previous vet would have been over £200 plus travelling time too us would have been nearly an hour and a half, this guy is 45 minutes so very very happy.
