Tommorow at Llanbydder sales an elderly shire mare is going through.
Equine Market Watch will be attending, and if possible, securing the mare as a suitable home has been offered in Devon for her.
So.....EMW are looking for help in the form of donations to the charity to both secure the mare, and take her to her new home (which will be under a loan contract) in Devon.
Anyone who can help either by donating to EMW, (perhaps a just giving page could be organised) or with transport PLEASE do so.

Not wanting to be negative at all - but will this plea for money actually manage to put her price up ? as it wont take many brains to get someone whom owns the mare to bid against EMW ?

hmm, this is why so many horses at markets are presented in a "thin" state - to get the sympathy bids. It's so sad, saw it a lot when I was in the RSPCA. I HATED attending horse markets, so glad we got it kicked out of Guildford.

I dont think she will be in poor condition to be honest, the sellers have had shires there before & they usually look well with them. I really hope a good home can be secured for her.

No no, I'm sure she won't be, just the sales I used to attend, along with the meat man, certain people presented horses poor in order to bump up the price.

Sorry, sure that's not the case here. I agree, try and get a deal done before the ring, emphasising it's a charity purchase, retirement home, etc. I have even known the meat man to sell to a good home if he outbids someone - they are human.

PLEASE let us know what happens.

The local slaughterhouse (when we had one) used to buy cheap horses at the market and then keep them at grass for a while. Any that they thought they could do something with were kept and schooled on to sell.

Is anyone in contact with the seller? Its leaving it very late if they arent, the only other option is to offer the seller cash at the mart before she goes through the ring.

I spotted her in the catalogue this morning and informed EMW, have emailed every shire horse society/group/centre I could find, EMW are the only ones interested.
I think a few people are going to end up bidding on her I know of at least 5 going to see what the mare is like.
She can come to me overnight if needs as I'm only a mile out of Llanybydder but she wont fit in my box

Im sure if you spoke to the seller he would drop her off, you might find your on his way home.

Hi Joanne... Is this shire from Wales or Cornwall... I just wondered since you are from Cornwall... I know of an older shire mare from Cornwall and just wondered if it was her?

Ah ok, I started to get worried when I saw op was from Cornwall... Bless her... I hope they get her so she's safe and sound and well cared for:(
