Sick and tired of flapping and frayed electric tape, so have decided to go down the electric rope route.

The horses are all pretty sensible with fencing so not too concerned about them running through it, but would still like to but breakers on the rope just in case.

How far apart should I put the connectors (used as breakers) and how tight should the nuts be to ensure the rope will ping out under pressure?

I pull my electric rope very very tight when I'm am initially running it's through as once it has its first soaking it will loosen off quite a bit.

I don't really understand what you mean by breakers, as I've never wanted any horse to have a weak spot to charge through, in my fencing nor have I felt the need to have one as with it always electrified they have had no need to go through it.

Actually OP I'm with you on wanting a weak point here and there. I have no idea about recommended distances but I've seen horrible injuries from rope and my horse has had an accident with it. I still think it's better than tape, and like you I plan to replace our tatty tape with rope at some point. I will probably insert a break every 50m or less. Dunno.
