Is it just me or does anybody else think that Ellen acts like a spoilt brat when things don't go her way?
Have just been watching Hickstead and I really don't think she is a good ambassador to young showjumpers when she is pulling and hauling that horse after the last fence.
I know it is disappointing when things don't go as planned but surely there is no reason to put on such a show?

I agree, i just finished watching her speed round, and not every round goes as planned, which does not give her the right to try to saw her mounts mouth off, i was disgusted, i'd be looking to see if it was my fault first!

I agree, OH and myself were saying the same thing. We were disgusted at the way she hauled on the horse's mouth. Grrrrr

This isn't the first time she has acted like this, I do not like her riding style because of this.
I remember watching the Speed Derby years ago and was discusted by how much she was hauling them around.

she isnt the only whitaker who does it, ive seen one of them doing exactly the same thing at towerlands. It was his crap riding at fault but the horse got the blame. I said to my daughter at the time that you don't see him doing that on the tele.

Not an Ellen fan I am afraid. Agree with others about the abassador thing. Several years ago my in laws and I were watching Olympia on TV, Ellen had a disappointing round and came out the ring looking very sulky and about to cry. My father-in-law who had no idea who she was commented on what a spoilt sulky little madam she looked to be. Not good for the sports image at all.

John Whitaker is the best horseman I have ever seen in my life

Surely you must acknowledge that he is a superb rider, even if you dont like his personality?

Personally I don't think she'd be where she is today if it wasn't for her last name . .

*prepares for flames*

110% agree with that!

Has anyone got a clip, would like to see.

I know this isn't a nice thing to say but can't stand the ads she does for Caldene, they make me want do something not printable to her, not buy the clothes!

I saw Ellen jumping a few years ago at the Scope Festival. She just outstripped everyone. She was winning classes and beating the best in the country by a serious amount. She is talented.

QR - In her defence, I saw her riding at GYS when things didn't go to plan, it was really deep ground and although her horse wasn't going terribly, she kept patting it all the way round and then ended up retiring and gave it lots of fuss....

PMSL about hedgehog skins.... isn't that from Riders - as in the TV show?? or maybe they copied from JW!

Loads of people - SJers AND eventers - are meant to use that kind of technique, and probably quite a lot who are alledged to use those techniques actually do

Having talked to a guy who has recently worked on a current leading SJers yard, I wouldnt be surprised at anything really

I saw her at Olympia a few years ago, her riding was pretty disgraceful really.
She was in the jump off of a certain class, one fence was at one end of the arena and the next right at the other, she galloped straight down the arena and threw her horse into this fence at a horendous angle, he had no choice but to try and scramble over the poles, knocking all of them and the fillers aswell. Tbh, he was incredibly honest to even try.

Following this, she whacked him really hard and jabbed him with her spurs, he rushed forward in a panic so she stood up in her stirrups, and yanked each rein with a lot of force about 10 times, whilst booting his sides, then hit him and rode to the next fence.

Also saw her at British Open once, it was a 2 phase class, and the last fence of the 1st phase was lined up with the 1st fence of the 2nd phase, most riders who hadn't cleared te 1st bit were letting they're horses jump the next fence to avoid pulling them up sharply, but she made a big scene of tugging on the reins and instisting the horse pulled up about a stride away from the fence.

She also gave my friend evils at a show! :@ LOL!

xxxxxxx

I agree both john and michael ride fantastically, Ive seen ellen ride really nicely and try to give the horse confidence and then like she did today, some of her horses do not look the easiest, but as she gets older hopefully she will grow up, I remember seing Robert jumping johns lactic at olympia a few years ago and he refused a jump it was conpletly rider error, but he still smacked the horse, but he seems to be a much nicer rider now!!! We all have off days!! I wish I could jump that sort of course!!!

I sometimes think women don't like other women who do well/look good/are talented/are popular, etc.. If it was a man, you would probably all be swooning over him. No-one's perfect, I'm sure there are others better/worse. I do find bitchfests a bit distasteful though.

least talented of the Whitaker's by far, imho, definitely not my favourite. that Locarno is a megastar, his enormous scope covers up for her inaccuracies, i think.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's exactly what I think.

That's the biggest load of cr@p I've ever read.

There is no jealousy about a young girl losing her temper pulling and tugging a horse about on national TV.
From what I have read on here I wouldnt say she is exactly popular either - talented yes but obviously needs her toys taking off her as she seems to throw them out of the cot on a regular basis at her horse's expense.

As for it being a bitchfest, get a life, this is a forum for open discussion

I was watching yesterday and I wish I'd not deleted it from Sky Planner now. There was a foreign rider, young man, who hauled on his horse far worse than Ellen after his round.
