The vet came over to see Ellie this evening and as soon as he saw her he said 'dog attack'

This confirmed my initial thoughts given that she has wounds on all four legs.

He shaved all the wounds, most were superficial but the worst was a puncture wound to her offside hind which had hit an artery. I forgot most of what the vet said (stressed and upset) but basically his decision, given her age (27) was to leave the wound open and draining to try to flush any infection from the dogs saliva out. He did say that he would treat a younger horse differently but I can't remember why and what he would have done. She had some antibiotic squirted into the puncture wound and three injections, tetanus, anti inflamatory/painkiller and antibiotic. I have antibiotic injections to give her and bute and the vet will come back in three days.

The vet did say that should Ellie get an infection then the prognosis wasn't good. Please send huge vibes for the old girl.

Big vibes for her <<<<<>>>>> that there is no infection and a Hug for you (((()))

Haven't got a clue who's dog it was, no one saw anything. First thing I noticed was that Daisy had runny crap down her legs and her tail and I said to OH that something had scared her. We then saw Ellie's legs.

I am putting something in the village paper and also going to phone the local vets to see if a dog was taken in injured as Ellie will definately have kicked it.

She didn't bat an eyelid through all the poking and prodding the vet did, bless her.

I've got everything crossed that her injuries heal well. It's appalling that someone's dog has caused her injuries. I bet someone, somewhere knows something as it's hard to believe the dog would have got away unscathed.
