The vet came over to see Ellie this evening and as soon as he saw her he said 'dog attack'
This confirmed my initial thoughts given that she has wounds on all four legs.
He shaved all the wounds, most were superficial but the worst was a puncture wound to her offside hind which had hit an artery. I forgot most of what the vet said (stressed and upset) but basically his decision, given her age (27) was to leave the wound open and draining to try to flush any infection from the dogs saliva out. He did say that he would treat a younger horse differently but I can't remember why and what he would have done. She had some antibiotic squirted into the puncture wound and three injections, tetanus, anti inflamatory/painkiller and antibiotic. I have antibiotic injections to give her and bute and the vet will come back in three days.
The vet did say that should Ellie get an infection then the prognosis wasn't good. Please send huge vibes for the old girl.
Some pics, all after the vet had been
