Hi
We have an 18 month old lab bitch who has started to 'hump' (for want of a better word) her big cuddly teddy bear. She did it on the odd occasion but over the last week the poor bear has been dragged all over the house by the nose and humped every half hour.

This is my first dog - is this normal? She was spayed at around 6 month-ish. All other behaviour is normal. She is gorgeous and cute but also pretty embarassing atm.

Please put my mind at rest.

My bitch tries to hump the other male dogs in the pack!! Bless it's not like she needs to show dominance...they all know she's the boss!! None are any use to her anyway as all are castrated, as she is spayed!!

Humping and mounting are different things. Mounting is often dominance. Humping rarely is.

Humping by spayed bitches can indicate an excess of testosterone. Bert the terrier had a Big Ted too. Prior to castration, Bert & Big Ted had a very one-sided relationship. It was bordering on OCD. After one particularly unfortunate incident between them, which resulted in Bert having an unretractable erection for 20 minutes:eek: Big Ted ended up in Big Skip.

Yes its normal.

If you don't like it distract her with a noise and another toy.

I would also take away the teddy.

OH was laughing at first and saying go on girl but now even he is laughing less!

Poor teddy is going to have to go in the cupboard tonight.

Will she grow out of it?

My girl has just started the same thing. Interesting to see that it's not to do with dominance and as BlazingSaddles says it could be high testosterone levels. She is a pretty assertive bitch.

I was just going to get her a bigger cushion as the current one doesn't seem quite big enough for her :o:o:o

I have been called many things in life but never assertive & a bitch ....................;)[/B]

Quality not quantity, I recommend M & S:D

Many apologies to BlazingSaddles ;)

I'm sure she knew what I meant :p Made me laugh though.

I deny any knowledge of whether she is an assertive bitch or not. Thanks for the advice on M&S. :)
