End of sep/start of oct weekend plans?

Well, lorry was fixed in time to go to BD with the 5yo, so that was good. On the hunt for regionals points, so 66.2% in our first test was close but no cigar (67% is minimum score to count at novice silver). Did get just over 67% in 37A though, so that one counts. Some odd anomalies in the judging though - winner of the class on 74% had LOWER collectives than I did?? Which must have meant their test was all 7s and 8s but collectives not above 6.5 which doesn't make any sense to me??

Winner was very correct but the natural paces were flat and uninspiring giving low paces and impulsion marks? Horse was very correct but rider actually rode like a plank with arms and legs doing random stuff?
.

This has happened ?? just need to fit the tow bar now!

I think that look like a Mercedes ML 4x4 - if so, my OH had one for a while and it was really great to tow with. You just have to remember you've got a trailer on the back as it doesn't feel like you're towing anything, it used to make light work of even the steepest Northumberland hills. ?

Rooni did his first advanced and psg yesterday. He’s been hot as sin recently so I was pleasantly surprised by his chill behaviour. The mistakes we made were out of greenness rather than anything else. 64% advanced 60% psg. H/C but respectable for a first go with 8’s to 3’s on both sheets.

Just need my new tails now!

Quick hack this morning as I’ve come down with (another) migraine so no energy roand he’s changed fields for the winter today too.

Very nice HP!

I love it!

It is! I’ve known a couple of people have them and everyone has liked them as tow cars. Figured if I needed to up the car and spend so much money ? then I may as well go fancy ??.

Had a fun day today at the BRC DTM champs, loved everyone's music. Top tip, if you want to be unique don't have Disney music, there was a lot of Disney.

First trip away from home with Bean was a success! I don't even need to lunge, just walk around in hand for a few mins and off I go. She had to put up with slightly mad weather, loose dogs and horses popping up from around the hedge. Not bad ?. Little vid below.

Either way, if you're scoring a 6 or below for a collective, it is against the basic judging principles to be able to score 8 for most of the movements. Either there is a fairly significant issue with paces/submission/impulsion/riding that should reflect in the marks across the board, or there's something strange going on with the markinf. The opposite way round works - high collectives with a score marred by inaccuracies and errors of course, but not this way....I'm going to assume it was some kind of error in the way it was written on the scoreboards ?‍♀️

Or it was naughty in one of the last movements so hammered for submission but had already got the good marks

It does sound odd, as you say the collectives should reflect the test and BD judge training is pretty good these days. As TheMule says, there could be a valid reason for it but it's equally likely that the scores on the board were wrong! It's easy to forget to double a collective or mis-type if they're trying to get scores up quickly.

I have an ML350 and although a bit spendy fuel and tax wise, it is an awesome car to drive and tow with!

Ah good to hear! I kinda figured all the big tow cars are pretty costly to drive and this is lovely, plus it was a similar price to any of the others that can tow a lot which surprised me, thought the badge would put more of a premium on it!

I towed with an ML for a few years, it was absolutely brilliant. As someone else said just remember that you have a trailer as the car made very light work of it! We also drove it with two adults, two children and two dogs from Oxfordshire to southern Spain (no trailer for that one!) and it was very comfy. Great cars.

Good reviews can keep coming :), just need to get a tow bar on it and then upgrade the trailer for Beryls giant bum!

Yesterday’s outing with Jack didn’t quite go to plan but hey ho… no points but we did manage a second and our first overall win so can’t complain too much.

NV appears to have sprouted again as he’s back to looking like a leggy baby ?

We had our first under saddle canter in almost five months today and he was as good as gold. Thankfully we appear to have passed the explosive stage ? and we’re starting to introduce a little bit of the more fun stuff.

Good weekend for me. Last year I joked that dressage was the easiest way to win a sash so joined BD as a club member and set out with the aim to win a sash. This week I finally managed to do it! Got close last year with a 3rd at BD combined Training Champs but this week won at regionals for My Quest.

I won’t go to the finals as I hoped to qualify in two classes but we ended up 7th in the novice by 2%. A fly buck, spooking and an open mouth dropped some marks. One judge had us at 68% the other at 65%. It’s too far to go for one test and I know the horse doesn’t go so well indoors.

Got a bitting clinic session next week to see if we can make the horse more comfortable in her mouth to stop the mouth opening as has got a bit worse since we want a bit more power and contact.

I have enjoyed MQ this year as totally not my sort of thing but with being a member of BE and BS I couldn’t afford to add full BD membership to my list of £££ spent so kind of restricts what I can do plus I had no idea how my health would play out. I have had to give up eventing as kept falling off with a slower brain and generally weaker so this has been a good series to keep me going with something to aim for.

Hopefully will get back out doing my first love next year of eventing.

I'm off to visit a potential share horse tomorrow. Loving my riding school lessons again but I'm also missing all the joy of sharing so tentatively started looking.

It's right in the middle of the week so not last weekend's and too early for next weekend but I'm really excited about it (and a little anxious/nervous at the same time) so I thought I'd share on this thread :D

Well it wasn't the one sadly. Feeling pretty crap about it. The horse was absolutely fabulous and it was my damn confidence getting in the way again. I watched him ridden and wasn't sure about getting on (couldn't tell you why specifically, although the dark and high wind wasn't exactly prime riding conditions anyway so that probably didn't help). Some would probably argue not to get on but I thought I would push through and just walk round to start. The feeling didn't go away. Despite him not putting a foot wrong we didn't get out of walk. I felt so embarrassed but had to be honest.

Can’t actually believe this is happening. My USA E2 treaty trader visa got approved this week. Bog starts his journey next Friday and I (hopefully, passport return dependent) go the following day.

I am so nervous for him, he’s going to have a ten day total journey. Leaves the UK 14th, flies 18th, 3 days quarantine at LA then a few days overland to Colorado. I feel like I’m not going to eat a bite of food in that entire time :(

And having a bit of a meltdown about what a big ask if feels for him to do that and how much his life is going to change (less worried about mine!). Also trying not to think too much about the £15,000 to get him there (I got a nice shock with the change in pricing from feb to now..and thanks to the pound dollar rate!). He’s worth every penny though

That seems like a very negative post as I’m actually incredibly excited and grateful to have the opportunity, just want Bog there safe, sound, happy.

Eeeeek!

Super exciting though. I absolutely love Colorado. Fascinating that HHO has horses and owners who have travelled and relocated in both directions. Interested to know how you get on - we've had a potential US relocation at some point as a bit of a potential idea in the very distant future.

tbh, I’m nervous. He will be in a dry lot 1/5 acre turnout situation with bigger pasture in the summer. It’s not ideal… but I guess he will adapt. Or if he doesn’t he goes home. The alternative is a herd turnout ranch type situ but he’s such a nightmare with other horses bar Bear and I don’t think he’d keep weight on out 24/7 in these winters.
