I would not continue with the share but I would try to leave on good terms. So it would be more, "Thank you for allowing me to share your horse, I have really enjoyed it and realise I want to do more now. Because XXXX can't do more, I think it would be best if I give you one week's notice now, and look for another horse. Thank you for helping me get to that point."

Of course she can end the lease, she just tells the owner and doesn't go to the yard. That 'contract' isn't binding.
sorry she signed the contract where by only the owner can terminate the lease.

she left a year ago as the owner changed her view on our turnout, she was a piece of work the owner. As far as I know she is still on the contract, I would never sign an agreement where I could not get out a contract. I agree, but this lady said her hands were tied, that's all I know.

Agree with all above about finding a more satisfying arrangement, however I'd be interested to know what the owner does with the horse. Does she trot/canter/jump etc or is it just you who isn't allowed to?

You sound like a very responsible sharer and I think @Red-1's suggestion above is the perfect way to end the arrangement on a positive and polite note.

I am a bit surprised that such a horse is put on share in the first place if its activities are so limited. It sounds more like a retirement project.

I understand about the hard ground and not cantering I don't canter out if its hard, but I might do a quick half hour hack then go in the school for 15 minutes afterwards some days.

My general motto is never to burn bridges. So I would totally leave but find a way to do it in a polite, constrctve way. Just as Red-1 suggests. Doesn't always work because however reasonable you are, other people can react negatively. But that's on them, then.

So she's paying but getting anything in return?

I'm pretty sure a contract with no get out clause or reasonable notice period for either party is illegal unless it's a fixed term contract and that fixed term is a reasonable length of time, not up to 20 years or however long the horse is able to be ridden. I would hope the lessee has taken proper legal advice and not just taken the owner's word for it that she has to keep paying.
