hi just wondered if anyone can help,
im hacking my mare to a show in a few weeks where she will be doing the 1metre class, however after the hack there she will be too sluggish to jump her best, she will give it a good go but shes more likely to knock poles. i was thinking of using an energy paste as ive not yet found a feed that affects her energy in any way. can anyone reccomend anything :)

There is nothing you can buy in a tube that will make your pony pick her feet up and jump higher. Concentrate on improving her fitness. Hacking a few miles to a show shouldn't affect her ability to jump, if she already has the ability.

I got a supplement for my boy a few years ago I think its called red cell came in a purple jar, what its susposed to do is produce more red blood cells increasing the oxygen levels and helps abit of endurance. Also I would work on her fitness because all that combined with the hack home could cause injury!

honestly a metre is nothing to her and she is in top fitness but she is afterall a cob and an hours hack does tire her out, she will still jump everything and she may still do well but i want to give her the best chances, thanks :)

crazyhorse4727 thankyou i will look into that. fitness isnt an issue shes in amazing shape atm. she can just be abit sluggish jumping sometimes, she loves it just lacks momentum lol x

Well hopefully that stuff should work. I was in the same boat as you with him, hacking to shows and no energy, but that stuff seemed to give him the extra energy without just making him fizzy! You could also try making watery sugarbeet and putting the water minus the beet into his feed as it is a slow release energy method!
Hope it works!

well she tyed up around xmas so dont want to risk oats or sugarbeet, but i will definately look into this stuff thank youuu

If an hours hack tires her out then she doesn't sound as fit as you think.

Have you considered tiger oats? There's a mare at our yard with EPSM, her owner is seriously hot on whats in feed (starch levels etc) and she has found feeding a low quantity of tiger oats quite successful.

if she has a tendancy to tie up do not use red cell!

sorry but i have to agree with this. i could easily go out for 4+ hours hacking (including gallops on beaches and swims) on my 20 odd yr old cob cross.

thanks on the tiger oats, i know shes not allowed rolled so hadnt taken them into consideration. sorry i dont mean shes like tired but i need her quite fresh for jumping otherwise she will bury herself and jump from underneath, shes abit odd lol its hard to explain. i can assure you she is fit though but thanks for taking all things into consideration
