Had my mare scanned on Tues & the vet found her right ovary was huge. He basically couldn't get his hand around it, whilst doing a rectal exam, so we're thinking melon/football sized.
It is also causing her significant pain as even under sedation she was arching her back & trying to get away from the vet's hand & the scanner.
Blood tests came back today but hormone levels are normal! I've read a bit about GTC tumours & along with her aggressive behaviour & cresty neck, I was expecting to see high testosterone levels.
The vet has recommended another scan in 10 days to see if the ovary has shrunk back to normal size & if it has then to put her on Regumate.
Her left ovary was normal. She is 9 & nearly always suffers with colic-type tummy ache symptoms mid-cycle. Can be very grumpy, almost lame behind (fairy steps) , sore-backed to brush & girth up & will throw some horrendous bucks at this time.
Any experience of similar experiences would be appreciated!
