I was going to get my lad a 4-legged Equafleece coat, for drying off after hydro sessions.

I measured him thoroughly according to their demo video, and plugged in the measurements A - E to calculate what size he’d need…and the site said nothing matched, and to fill out a contact form or phone up!

He is a very non-standard shape, but I’d hoped he’d fit into some category.

Has anyone else got an odd bod, and how long do Equafleece take to reply? Had rather hoped to have it by the next session on Tuesday!

My reply is the same as above, can't help as they recommended a size for her. Fodhla's is wearing so well so far and washes brilliantly.

Not sure where you are but if you're in a hurry and near Belfast Murphy and Bailey in East do drying robes? I haven't got one but probably will, my friend raves about hers for her retriever. You can bring him in with you for a fitting too.

Just ring them, their customer service is excellent.

I still have the poloneck for my old dog who died in 2013, it's about 12 years old and in great nick, fits both current males.

I got a much cheaper zip-up jumper from Rydale and there's no comparison in terms of quality or sizing. Just can't stretch to another Equafleece at the moment!! Worth every penny.

Hector confounded their size chart too. I was surprised as he already had one of their jackets, but I wanted a second and also to have zips in both as he is old and it isn't comfortable for him to pull them over his head like a jumper any more. I did the measuring as I couldn't remember what size he was, and was surprised the chart didn't work as the first one had been a standard off the peg number, from eBay!

I rang and they told me I must have measured wrongly. I measured again, with Mr Red, we both agreed the same measurements... so I bought another standard one from eBay and sent both to a local seamstress for the zip!

I think their size chart may be a little off for terriers!

Our rather oddly shaped little dog didn't line up with their online measurements either. I emailed with his measurements and details and they replied almost immediately with a suggested size. We ordered that and it's been great.

I rang last year when my two long dogs didn’t fit standard sizing. They were super helpful on the phone and really wanted me to get the right fit.

I think it took 4-6 weeks to come at the time as they were very busy.

Thank you for the replies, it sounds like they come very highly recommended.

Hats off to their customer service team - they replied to my 11pm message at 1:47am! I hope for their sake that they’re either working from a different time zone, or getting suitably remunerated for their time!

Their message really made me laugh. I think we confused them GREATLY, trying to imagine the shape and size of dog he must be! Apparently when the plugged his measurements into whatever more sophisticated calculator they have, it’s spitting out a 31 superslim, which the advisor believes ‘doesn’t quite tally’ with my description of him as a rough collie x Jack Russell haha. He really does need to be seen to be believed, to be fair.

They describe the 31 superslim as being a very long garment, to fit a slim medium retriever, or a long-backed skinny/light boned collie - well he would definitely be close to the latter!

Their other recommendation would be a 28 slim, which would fit a typical slim, 23kg working lab.

I’ll measure him again this morning for peace of mind, and then I guess I’ll go ahead and order what seems to be their second-largest size suit?!

I really hope it works for us, I’m sick of dog coats that come in XS-XL, and never fit at all.

Can't recommend Equafleece highly enough.

If you give them a ring and say what your problem is they will do their very best to help and will advise on you how to take specific measurements.

Their coats are way way better quality than anything else you can buy and I was especially grateful to them a few years back now when I unexpectedly was invited by a friend to take my dogs and have a weekend at hers, but needed a drying fleece asap!

Equafleece did their very best to get me the item asap and I was very grateful to them.

They used to do rider-wear AND very nice little quarter-fleeces. Have still got the one I bought from them and it kept my old lad's huge backside really cosy in the winter months. Perhaps one day (if enough of us pester them!! LOL) they will maybe consider doing an Equestrian range again....... who knows.

Nice people. Nice products. And mega-helpful which is unusual in this age we live in. Also as a Devonian 'tis even more pleasing to deal with them as they are based in Devon, not near me (East Devon) but nr Tavistock. So to use them is to use a "local" business, in effect.

34 coat on its way to us, a week sooner than they said, as it was an out of stock item. His second Equafleece, he has a jumper. Brilliant products and the cheapest way to clothe a Dane as a bonus!

Crumbs, if a 34 fits a Great Dane, maybe the 31 will be too enormous?

My lad’s A measurement, from centre of breastbone, to base of tail, was 70cm (28ins), and E measurement, from withers to base of tail, was 64cm (23ishins).

How does that compare to your boy, fitting into a 34?

I can't remember to be honest, he's had his first one a long time. He's chunky rather than being super tall or long, the old fashioned German type. However, he was somewhere near 34 topline, not chest to tail, IIRC. I might be wrong.

At the risk of sounding very dim, how exactly does one put on the 4-legged suits, without a zip?

I’ve ordered the 31 superslim with the plan being to check the fit and then have a zip installed, but it occurs to me that I’ve no idea how to get it on without a zip!

Does anyone have a video, or can provide idiot-proof instructions for me?

Oscar spaniel is still wearing the Equafleece we bought him about 11 years ago. It has been much spanieled and much washed and is not even close to being worn out.

His is jumper but it'll go on the same way as a four legged one. Bunched up. Over head. Front legs into arms one at a time. Then for the four leg ones I imagine you just wangle their back paws through the leg holes. The belly is cut out for toileting so it's just like putting the jumpers on with extra leggie bits attached.

That's a brilliant description. *takes a bow* ?

Thank you both!

So I’m imagining scrunching it up, doing front legs first so they can step in without being manipulated too much, then pop over the head, and then back legs should be easy to slip in?

I always put the head in first. Hard to describe ?

I think I know what you mean!

Their video here shows legs first, if it’s an older or stiff dog -

I just couldn’t work out where the back legs would come into it, but I’m hoping they’re as simple to pop in as PF described, with the ‘leggie bits’!

Another big recommendation from me! They’re also far more waterproof than you think in the rain. Did a 10 miler in the Brecon Beacons in true welsh weather a few weeks ago and all 3 spaniels were completely dry underneath!

In terms of getting back legs in, the hole in the middle is big enough that it’s easy to do the front part first then just pop back legs through. Posy has a jumper and a new 4 leg one, her jumper has some tiny holes in the elbows from skidding on sand/dirt but other than that is as good as new 3yrs on.

You can have a zip added if you ask. Even if you order first to make sure the size is right, you can send back and have a zip added ?. I've done exactly that for my older arthritic dog and it's a godsend. Love Equafleece! Great quality, fab customer service, you won't regret it ?

Eta, just seen that you plan on doing this ? (blame the wine). Scrunch up, head in first, then front legs, then it it will stretch over nicely to slip back legs in ?

My greyhound lives in his when it is cold. Unfortunately he is an expert at weeing into the belly area, he has never cocked his leg whilst we have owned him - 8+ years. We take his back legs out and tie them forward round his neck to prevent this at toilet times.

Oh dear, my lad doesn’t cock a leg either, hadn’t thought about that! He doesn’t piddle on his Hurtta coat that comes up round the belly, I suppose we’ll see how far back the equafleece is when it gets here.

Decided to go for the 31 superslim. Expect either elation at a garment that fits perfectly for once, or some absolutely hilarious photos.

B*gger, it's arrived and it's too small, I'd forgotten my last order from them, the way I decided on size, was for a friend's smaller Dane. Definitely stick to their advice on sizing!

Oh pants, that’s annoying!

Mine has been dispatched, I’m crossing everything and hoping that their sizing advice will work!

100% recommend Equafleece and they are so good with sizing help. I use paypal to pay and then you get free returns if needed.

I did a count recently and there's 5 suits, 1 tankie, 6 jumpers and 7 of the old style rugs here plus some summer suits  in my defense I have many dogs!

I just gave them a call and gave the measurements over the phone - lovely quality coats.

It should be arrive special delivery today before 1pm! Really hope it fits, we’re off to hydro again this evening. Imagine being excited about a dog cost, how sad is that?!
