Equetech - awful customer service?

Glad I read this. I had the Equetech 'Glacial' coat in my sights as a Christmas present (I mean a present to me, but if I didn't order my own then OH would probably get me a case of whisky and I don't drink hard liquor). I will now look for other alternatives - suggestions anyone?

What bothers me here is not the fact that someone had a problem with a product, but the reaction of the company. I also find it very dishonest that this poster has previously recommended Equetech products without disclosing that they work for the company. I do not know if it is illegal, but it is certainly not being transparent.

In my opinion companies dealing with animal products are usually quite good with customer service, and they should be, after all they are dealing with groups of people who continually share information.

As an example of how to deal with customer problems I can point to Dengie. Last year I had some chaff which none of the horses would eat. I contacted them to ask if there had been some change to the product. They responded immediately, told me that there was no change in the formula, and asked me to send a sample. As I am abroad this would not be practical, so they tested their retained samples and let me know that all was fine. I was not asking for any refund or replacement, but on their own initiative they contacted my feed supplier and arranged for replacement bags to be delivered to me, which the horses happily tucked into. Result is that I remain a loyal customer, and actually would say that I feel even more positive about their brand than prior to this issue, and would choose their products over other brands.

Equetech - take note. You could have turned this into a PR triumph. Had you taken back the coat for testing, helped the customer, replaced it if faulty, then she would probably have been posting here about what a great company you are. No one wants to buy an expensive coat that might be not waterproof within a year, especially when the company simply hides behind it being out of warranty, at these prices people expect products to last. Instead you have shot yourself in the foot, and whenever anyone googles your company name this thread will pop up. Maybe it is time to do the right thing, replace the coat, and hope that this results in some positive feedback.

Rather was a brand of high st jewellery - their owner/chairman said publicly that the product was crap. They went bust.

EDIT - I checked and they didn’t go bust. Not quite. Very nearly.

It is certainly illegal for an influencer not to disclose when they are being paid to promote a brand or product. An influencer can be anyone, not necessarily a famous name, so I think this forum member is sailing close to the wind. They might argue that they are an employee rather than a paid influencer but it’s distinctly dodgy, and if not illegal very bad for brand image. Glad it has been spotted. She is still posting on other threads though, about equetech. (The Reynauds post).

I know I’m biased but the Kyla coat is INCREDIBLE. As I said, mine has been going for five winters and is still waterproof and lovely. WB customer service is excellent, especially lovely Mel. ?
I also know HH customer service is excellent and the team are lovely, but I haven’t bought any of their coats so can’t really comment.
I may or may not have bought this coat based on a recommendation on another thread.

I love it. It's had one test in heavy rain so far. It held up well and I think is going to be a goodie!

I too bought one, but it leaked through the seams in heavy rain for 1.30h ride, thought maybe it was a bit much to expect of it but maybe I’ll send a message over to WB…

Have to ask... what is a 'Ratner' moment?!
Back in the 80’s (I think) Gerald Ratner ruined his own successful jewellery business during a public speech. It want something like “I’m often asked by people how we can sell at such reasonable prices….it’s because the product is s**t”

Or something along those lines.
The business didn’t recover.

DEFINITELY get in touch. Pm me if you’d like? Did you buy it direct or through a retailer?

That post was from November 2019 - she's not posted on anything since this thread.

Ok I know I may be biased as I used to work for them, but the Weatherbeeta Kyla coat would be my go to long winter coat. I’ve had mine since before they released in the UK, so it’s done around five winters and is still totally waterproof. I arranged for Miri Hackett to have one and she now has four ?

I’m sorry to see you’ve had this experience. Equetech have really not done themselves any favours here. Not the best PR example I’ve ever seen I have to say!

I love the new colour they have brought out.

I have a lovely long coat from Kramer that i adore.

I was very close to buying the Utopia coat because I liked the features on it. But it's too much money to spend if they only have the confidence to guarantee to 6 months. They obviously can't have much faith in the fabric or craftsmanship if after 6 months it's out of warranty and they are so unsurprised that they don't want to investigate it.

I have an excellent UHIP winter coat. I might just get their lightweight version as well.

This has been an interesting read!

OP, I hope you get sorted soon. What a nightmare.

Really nice to see how well recommended the Kyla is… I picked one up in the sale at the end of last winter, it’s lovely. Very cosy and so far it has been great in dodgy weather.

Is the Kyla long enough to cover the back of the saddle and your thighs when you're riding?

I've been looking at that coat as a result of this thread and that was my concern too, if I'm wearing a long coat then I like it to be long enough to keep my bottom dry when riding!

ETA I like the length of the HH one, but not keen on the fact that it has 'Harry Hall' written down the outside of the sleeve.

It definitely will. I’m 5’8 and it keeps my bum dry. It was designed by a very tall and willowy woman called Christie (who is SO BLOODY NICE), and most definitely covers the bum. It has a pleat in the back to give space for the candle too.
In all my time at Weatherbeeta, and all our brands, that was my favourite product we sold.

That's great to know, I'm 5'8" too and skinny so coats are often a bit of a disappointment as I look like a walking tent, and/or they are stupidly short!

I am wondering where you put your candle when you are riding though, and why you have one...?

No mention of the candle on the WB website... bad marketing that, especially this winter

Of course, I was just testing your knowledge ? I also carry a collapsible telescope and fob watch on a chain of course. Actually that's not true, my servant carries them whilst he walks several paces behind me on an inferior horse ?

I always fancied being a highway(wo)man, but I don't think it will work with white horses- do you know if anyone at Weatherbeata makes black horse bodystockings? I am happy to ditch the servant to improve my stealth and escape speed.

I reckon the lovely product team would be up for making one if you presented a strong argument. ?

I'm not sure offering to be a brand ambassador would swing it, I expect they'd be against being represented by a highwayman- although that's clearly just woke prejudice against working women. Maybe if I rode to their offices and tried a 'stand and deliver' approach? Although clearly I couldn't sneak up as I don't have my robbing-stocking yet so my plan may be somewhat flawed...?
