Am thinking of investing in on for my 5yr old cob, please tell me your experiences, how you introduced it, how many times you use in one week, how quick results where etc.........

Thanks

I used mine (riding aid) for the first time yesterday, have to say it is brilliant! I put it on loose to start with so it didn't take action, an gradually made it tighter, but not too tight. Did walk and trot work for 10 minutes. Pip went really well in it, no giraffe, no fighting, soft and happy. When I took it off she went the best she's ever been. :) Got a cracking medium trot out of her! I plan to use it twice a week 20 minutes each time once I've built her up to it.

I can't see from the picture, but how is the riding aid different from a bungee or market harborough type thing?

Very different bungee acts using light poll pressure theres no poll pressure in a equi ami and the market harborough is a sort of fixed length draw rien for riding in.
The equi forms a continuous loop round the horse making almost impossible for the horse to lean and fix against it on the lunge.

Cobsgalore- Ive never seen or used a bungee or MH so can't really comment on the differences but can tell you how it works... Its a loop which is place over the horses head and runs through the bit, the loop then has an attachment to the girth. You adjust the loop to the appropriate size. When the horse puts their head up pressure is increased, when they lower their head the loop loosens and softens so no pressure. It doesn't force them into an unnatural outline.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though

That's interesting I have never used the riding one.
Is it acting like a sort of 'running' harbridge then ?

Do you use the lunging aid atall or just started out in the riding aid?
Someone sells these at the local yard seriously considering buying one for my cob and then being shown how to use it correctly.
They do seem alot of money so wanted peoples opinions/experiences of the lunging and riding aid :)

I have bought a lunging / riding set recently off eBay, not used it as now giving up to buy a house, if anyone is interested pm me

Guys, I despair. Why do you need such things? What are you trying to achieve?

All of the above can be achieved by asking the horse to work from the quarters correctly. Before she attaches the aid, the horse is just trailing along half asleep, as soon as she attaches it, he's still trailing along but now has a bit of string that pulls his head every time his back legs move.

If you give the horse more time to work his back muscles, it will all develop naturally and cause less strain. Holding them in a fixed position as the video shows develops muscles incorrectly and causes problems later on as the horse compensates for uneven muscling.

Just thought I'd say.

The lunging aid does not have any poll pressure .
I must get a look at the riding thingy .

Interesting. They sell the lunging and riding aid set on ebay, I just presumed it was all once piece and you just 'disconnected' the front in some way to attach while you are riding, but it is obviously two separate pieces of equipment that work in slightly different ways?

Well I have the lunging aid and love it. Havent had it long and now he has gone in loan so haven't seen 'results' as such but it did make him carry himself and work correctly on the lunge. Using side reins he just fixed himself and didn't engage his back end so i hadnt lunged for a year or so. However due to me being preggers i stopped riding and lunged more and this gadget I felt there were benefits.
*old horse, knows to many tricks to look pretty and avoid working properly! Due to slight bony changes I did most of the lunging in walk with a bit of trot, only cantering when he was bucking and farting about! In a paddock, so loads against us but I still found it useful.
