After getting soaked in that dreadful downpour on Saturday evening, I’ve decided I need a good coat to keep at the farm.
I won’t use it for riding (I like a blouson for riding, nomatter the weather) so it’s just really for pottering to the muck heap, getting the horses in and doing field stuff in wet weather. I’ll likely remove it for mucking out as I tend to overheat (dodgy inner thermostat)

I was thinking of the thermal 2 rating. I overheat easily so think the 3 will be too hot for me, but
I tend to get a bit clammy in anything more cagoule-like, so I think the 1 will fall into this category.

Do people recommend them?

I now have two. I bought the mid-rating Equidry evolution last autumn, and found it kept me completely dry when I was riding in it in the rain. It was still pretty warm, though, and I could only comfortably ride in it when the temperature was under 10C. (I am menopausal, though, so my internal thermostat is broken! If you feel the cold, you'll be fine in it.) I've since bought the evolution mac, which as well as being much lighter, also has a better hood than the other one, as it actually fits over a riding hat properly and has a drawstring, where my other one doesn't - they may have updated the design since then, though. I've not had to wear it in heavy rain yet, but it has the same waterproof rating as my other one, so I expect it to be as good.

Now, if I were only going to have one, I'd go with the mac as it's suitable for a much wider range of temperatures (you can always layer up underneath as there's plenty of room). I can see me getting much more use out of that one.

I’ve got two Equidry. The first was one of the originals and still going strong. Bought a second last year so l could have a clean one 😂 as well as a general farm one. I haven’t ridden in them but they’re great for putting over everything and just getting on with things and you don’t get wet! The original has been washed and re proofed with nick wax a couple of times. We had a wander round some stands at a show recently and looked at some of the competitors that are now around but decided Equidry were far superior quality so will stick with them, definitely worth paying for.

I just got a cheap knock off version for 40 odd quid and it works just as well, its got a fleece lining but no real padding so doesn't over heat me and keeps me dry

I’ve got the mid range one. I’ve lived in it doing yard jobs outside last winter. I find if it’s pissing it down I don’t overheat but if it’s dry I do if I’m doing anything energetic. Keeps me nice & dry though! I’d really like one of the Mac versions for Summer as well as my cheap decathlon cape has finally decided it’s not very waterproof anymore after years of service

I’m hoping Santa will bring me one. I fancy the short mac version as a friend has one and it’s lovely to ride in but can layer underneath for wet winter days. Now which colour?!

I got an equidry from my sister but she got me one in an XS so the sleeves only come half way down my forearms. (I have ape length arms 🙄) It’s never been worn. I plan on buying a replacement that has longer sleeves and sell that one at a discount price….

I have an Equidry in the lite version (which is a thin fleece rather than a thick fleece), I feel the cold but haven't been cold in this, though I do wear layers underneath if it is really cold. I also have an Equicoat/Reincoat in the Mac version which I have been using this summer. I haven't over heated in it yet, but that may say more about our Summer! I like them both and to be honest there is no real difference between them.

I have the shortie and really like it, I also have the evolution lite and like that too, when it was really cold and damp it wasnt quite warm enough my reynauds still kicked in. The sizing is huge I went for the XS in the evolution and XXS tall in the shortie and I'm 5ft 5 size 12. If you ever want to try either on give me a shout

I have one, and I am glad I have it. Mine is XS, lite version in hiviz pink. I use it if I am riding when it is very cold and wet, and would use it if obstacle judging or spectating in the rain.

I dont use mine on the yard / day to day riding, it is too bulky and too warm despite being lite version.

But the times when I HAVE to ride in bad weather, it is fantastic.

I tend to use waterproof breeches / trousers and a light weight waterproof coat day to day.

Is the tall longer on the arms? I’m 5ft 6 and an 8-10 but the XS is so short on the arms so was going to try the tall but unsure if I will need to go for the S or M for arm length.

I have the Pro Ride lite and the Equimac.

The Equimac is the version which most flexible re appropriate weather conditions in which to wear it. There is nothing light about the lite, it’s a hefty winter weight which is grand in winter, and just right for spectating and hanging around on the yard waiting for vets etc. You’d soon cook if you rode in it doing any serious work.

If I was to have just one, I’d go for the Equimac, which is mesh lined, and layer up as necessary underneath it.

I have the S because I wanted the longer length and they didn't do it in XS (I'm a size 10) it's absolutely enormous, I kind of wish I'd sent it back for the smaller size. It's far too baggy and warm to do any work in easily. I have ridden on it but it kept bunching up under my bum when I was trotting - I probably didn't have it arranged properly. It is however fantastic for winter working in my home office - which is basically a standing up desk in a corner of my tack room. It's impossible to get cold when I'm wrapped up in that thing. It's also properly waterproof, very cosy.

Not yet had to test my Equimac in a prolonged downpour, just in steady summer rain, and it’s been grand. Being mesh lined it’s probably even more breathable than the fleece lined Pro Ride lite.

I did size down for the Equimac - I’ve got it in an XSTall whereas I’ve got the Equidry in an S.

For me it is just the price they are way too expensive.

I was offered one from a friend giving up horses and well it dragged on the floor I am only 5'2 and I too felt that it was too baggy to do any yard work so I gave it her back.

If I was leggy and tall and money was no object then fair enough ;)

Can't stand them - for some reason they make me freak out, I feel claustrophobic even looking at them!! For walking the dogs I have a Ridgeline monsoon with no lining as I get too hot too, it's a nice fitting jacket and doesn't flap around.

iI have two equidry - one full length and a shortie and very happy with them, use the shortie more for general yard work.

I use a cheap Decathlon cyclist Poncho that I through over whatever I am wearing for this purpose. It cost me £8, and has a hood and goes down to my ankles.
Personally, I do not think that Equidry are worth the money.

I have the lightweight EquiDry, and got a Equicoat / Reincoat for wearing in the summer showers as I find the EquiDry far too warm! Being able to compare them side by side I do feel that the Reincoat is better made and has better features - though it wasn't as rain-proof as I hoped. It's reasonably new and unwashed but got soaked through in a downpour, which was disappointing.

Why I think the Reincoat pips the EquiDry:
  • Waist cinch so it doesn't wear like a sack
  • Adjustable hood
  • Stowable hood is secured with a magnet so you don't get your hair stuck to the velcro!
  • High viz in the zip-up riding gussets
  • High quality finish and fittings (stitching, zips etc)
