I've been thinking about taking some horsey stuff to an equine car boot sale but most of the stuff I have to sell is new. Do people go to buy from these sales expecting everything for a couple of pounds? or would they buy new, good quality items at a much discounted rate?

I have a stable full of stuff that I bought as a job lot and although I've been selling bits and pieces on eBay and at car boot sales I thought it might sell better at a horse sale.

Mainly I would like to sell the clothing, I have childrens riding fleeces and adults T-shirts and fleeces that are all brand new in bag, would this type of thing sell there?

Also I have boxes of horse shampoo to get rid off!!

I've found a table sale that I could go to but it's at least an hours drive away so I don't want to go all that way not to sell anything!

I'm going to one next saturday, but I have no idea what it'll be like! There's so many types of car-boots.
I think you'll get interest from the stuff you've mentioned, if it's the same place I'm going to, I'll be sure to but some shampoo from you :P

Ooooh you'll have to let me know how you get on :D The one I'm thinking of is in a few weeks I think, need to book the day of work if I'm going to do it!

The shampoo is a pain to sell as the postage costs more then what I want for the actual shampoo, hence why I thought a equine sale may be good :)

I've done a few equine car boot sales - people buy anything and everything at equine boot sales! Broken rugs which I haven't had time to get repaired, bottles of shampoos and other lotions and potions! And people do know that new stuff is worth more. I've never come home from a equine car boot with less than £80 :)

Would definitely go. Be prepared to meet the usual dealers who will try and beat you down as soon as you open the boot of your car.

My top tip is if you see someone who is the right size for the clothes you are selling, then say something like "Have you seen this, I think its just your size and just right for the cold/wet/nice weather". Being bold pays dividends.

The other thing I would suggest if you are on a yard is write up a list of what you are selling and let people have a look before you take it to the sale. I made at least half of my money before I left my yard.

I'd definitely go. I've never sold anything at a tack sale but I've been to quite a few to buy and people bring everything and anything and by the end most things get sold. I'd go for it :)

I did one last year, sold all my good stuff I don't use. I made £80 before it opened - I was still setting up. It was mad. If you stuff is good it will go.

Its a real buzz too, so enjoy.

I go to to lot, and it does depend a lot. Find that as long as it is clean and good quality it will sell. Though I'm still amazed on people trying to sell brittle, broken bridles and wanting £30 for it:eek:, I don't care if it's jefferies it hasn't been looked after.

I also find that weekday evening sales are better? Dint know why I'd of thought ones on Saturday/Sunday would be, but they are not.

Go to a long standing one, they get the regulars.

I find that pricing up helps, as a small description of what it is, size etc.

Take a lot of change, and a few carrier bags.

I did one when I sold last boy and got rid of all his big stuff, I made £750 in one night. But pretty much everyone said that my stuff was like brand new. No just looked after and I cleaned it all before I went.

Don't price yourself too low, I've seen one person sell 3bits of a £1:eek:, good for the buyer but not for your pocket, I sold my snaffles for £8 each and they all went. She was at the next table.

Ohh and it's good fun!!!

Ooooh it sounds like it's well worth a try, have managed to persuade my sister to come and help me out for a small amount of commission :p :D

All the new stuff is still in the original bag so shouldn't have a problem with that!!

We were talking about it being odd that all the ones I've seen advertised being on weekdays but I guess everyone tends to compete/Hunt on weekends.

Does anyone know of regular sales in Gloucester? (we are actually in Hereford but can't see any advertised for around here!)

There have been a few advertising on Hereford Equestrian in the Bromyard area, dont know how far you are away from there tho? Think they are done by Marden Riding club so you could contact them to see if they have comming up or maybe if they could point you in the direction of someone who sells at the regulary in our area if find out how well stuff sells.

I've been looking around too for one to take some stuff too but Gloucestershire is too far for me. Let us know how you get on :)

Ah, far too far away from me :P I'm in bucks!

Were you going to the one in Nash? I went on Sunday and got a flashing LED vest, LED tail wrap, set of nice stable bandages and a nice big grooming kit box all for £12! Both LED things need batteries sorting but still very :D:D

Was slightly gutted that the lady in front of me got a full size lycra hood that looked brand new for £2  was hovering nearby in case she put it back down but no such luck!
