Sooo..I might have another addition to the herd...number 5 & 6 :O whoops....
Meet Johnny He's a 17hh ginger beastie by carambole He's only 7 but literally the most laid back dude I have ever met!
Annnd....I also now officially own a..cob :O
And I shall now go on a bit of a long one about said cob if you don't mind toooo much So, I saw Misty (now MistyMooMare) stood in a field last year and she caught my eye straight away, but was told by everyone on the yard she needed shooting as she was totally dangerous and nasty which I thought was such a shame for such a pretty girlie 6mnths later she came up for sale as a companion for a minuscule amount of money...so I asked some questions and found out she was completely unrideable, the last time someone tried to get on her she reared at someone and tried to paddle on their head! Then proceeded to bronk rider into the floor..hard..Apparently you couldnt get her in from the field without her rearing up at you (though was told you could coax her down with a polo or bucket of feed ) She didnt tie up, lead her anywhere, tack her up, would try and jump out of her stable etc etc... So...I offered an even more minuscule amount of money and picked her up the next day on the agreement if it didnt work out she would go back and be put down
So arrived to pick her up and popped a headcollar on and she plodded straight onto the trailer like a lamb.. arrived home after travelling like a dream and popped her in her new bedroom where she chilled out straight away
now...ha...I hadnt ever actually seen her without a rug on so took it off and actually havent seen anything so horrendous ..ever Not only was she seriously obese...but the amount of deep scar tissue from tack was unreal! Will get some pics at some point, at first I thought it was just fat but chiropractor and vet confirmed scar tissue so so sad.
But..she settled in really quickly and didn't put a foot wrong!! No issues turning out, leading, tying up...nothing! She was the sweetest girlie! So, even though this was all very good, was very confused as to why people had struggled with her so much..One evening when the yard was settled I decided to give us both a fair playing field and very slowly got on her bareback and I've never seen a reaction like it, she was all fine until I sat up and when I did the poor girl shook like a jelly was absolutely heartbreaking. Cue the next day contacting as many people as I knew who knew her to get some background info and it came out that she had 7 homes in 2 years with every single one saying what a nasty dangerous horse she was and needed shooting asap After A LOT of digging I found her owner from when she was 5 who had used her as a broodmare and was super super lovely
After that I started just putting tack on and off which was horrendously scary for her (especially being girthed up) and one day she let me hop on!!
She was super super scared and you just could not touch her at all with your leg without her exploding but we managed a few circles of walk which was more than most thought we'd achieve WHOOHOOO!!
We started hacking out!!!! It took a while and lots and lots of kindness and pats. We had a few bolt up rears and paddling and attempted broncing but we did it! We walked! Her main issue seemed to be going from the halt to walk, there was no way of asking her to go forward without it being terrifying- you couldnt even click but after a few hacks she started enjoying it! ..i think
We started trotting and jesus christ the girl has moves!! :O She felt about 18hh!! So one day we decided to put the pressure on a bit more and we went in the arena! She astounded everyone!
And she just got better and better in the next few weeks!
So...we thought we just bite the bullet and we went COMPETING :O
Which meant we got....
Since then we've done a few more and never come home without a rossie And we've even started doing this! :O
We do still have our issues...she can still be quirky when you first get on (but only for a few seconds) and she can have the occasional bronk BUT she enjoys life now she likes hacking, and schooling and loves jumping and is a happy girlie. Every single time I get off her I am honestly humbled by her forgiveness to humans, it genuinely makes my heart fill <3 So thank you to all the ponios out there that bring a smile to our faces and thank you to all the humans out there that make ponios happy
A massive cuppa and biscuits to everyone that made it this far
