I went- against all of the little voices in my head saying "its wet" " he got kicked on Tuesday" "im tired" I still decided to go. It was wet, very very deep going but Oshk seems to like it like that some days. We were in the depth of our wall country today and hunting has been very thin on the ground this January, today was one of our first meets since boxing day- so perhaps not the best meet on the card to come out to. He went well for the first wall line- A lot of newbs out and Oshk even allowed one of them to cut him up (
cheers mate) and he was really backing off and taking them at speed but quite nicely. Then it sunk in, he was hunting, he wanted to be up front, he hadnt been out in a while and he was allowed to be silly. When the queing started, he would stand dead sill, and then just as the horse in front set off, he would lauch into the air and fly towards his fences- that scary scary feeling I hate. He must have taken 10walls like this, none of them were touched and I was getting used to it, in fact the rest of the field became wise to him and started giving me abit of a cheer to them. But then we met a ditch- man made from the res with a lot of water flowing through it. We're not a ditch pack, this would have looked at home with some Irish packs it looked bloody terrifying to me, but the most terrifying part was still to come. Oshk left the floor from all fours, greeted with a gasp from the field behind me- which wasnt small, he then put down, took the ditch, the stride after the ditch and the wall in one jump
I was actually beginning to feel a little unsafe here, this isnt like Oshk and I could see it ending in tears. Determined to carry on I got back at one with him and began to really ride him. It was then that we had to loop to jump a wall, and oshk didnt see the wall, just the people galloping off, he leapt off all fours but then was confused which way to go, and spun mid air, I ended up on the floor, I seem to be there quite a lot recently. I bounced back up, jumped on, gave him an oik and set the record straight, but after that retired because he ws really not safe. Back home now, stiff neck, sore arse and a bad back. Itl take more than that to keep me in on a saturday night though
