So we went to the raw dog food shop today and got George a starter pack - massive yay for having a tiny cheap to feed terrier, £12 and it will last all month ?

I thought he seemed quite keen in the car on the way home, so first meal today was raw green tripe.....

Of course I feel massively guilty now, what an appalling owner I have been! How could I not have been feeding him this all along! Poor little badly treated George!

The only problem is - naturally - that the correct amount is (in George’s view) simply not enough ?

I'm not sure I would call that eating. Looks more like he's looking over what is offered, and then deciding in which order to inhale the bits.

And if you've only swapped from him not being happy with the food you offer, to him not being happy with his rations, I predict that he will continue to feel the need to use both his What have I done to deserve this-face, and Can I share that with you-face, quite often.

That was about 175g - he weighs 8kg so he gets 2-3% of his bodyweight every day on a raw diet.

Interestingly (to geeks like me!) he used to have a lot more volume of kibble than that, but the weight was only around 100g which was the correct amount for his weight.

He is pretty much spot on weight wise now, I’m really pleased with him, so it will be interesting to see if he changes weight on a raw diet ?

My little hound is about 11kg and gets 240g split between 2 meals to keep her slim. She does get treats and some big chewy bone meals are bigger. Spaniel gets near double that to stay anything but skin and bone but only weighs about 13kg max

Definitely be interesting. My girls who are a similar size have two meals a day, and probably about 2/3rds of that. They would happily eat a lot more ?

One of my girls breaths in food, the other eats a lot slower. So for the one that inhales her food she has a puzzle bowl.
Love seeing your George updates xx

Lol I’m now wondering if George will turn into one of these ? (well it’s a meerkat but you get the idea!)

It’s been a while since I fed raw..... as I recall my 2 ‘good do-ers’ needed less than the 2-3% and the 2 ‘poor do-ers’ needed more! Watch this space with little George - whatever he doesn’t need the hounds will get as topping on their food, so they will be delighted ?

I think my lad would like raw too and I would love to try it; currently he and his older friend have a 'good' kibble. Bess simply won't countenance raw food bless her (I have tried several times) but that may be because as a hound in kennels kibble is all she knew!! She will take a chicken wing (or other raw stuff) very politely and then carefully put it on the floor but even if left she won't eat it. When she is no longer with us I will probably try raw for Red - he will eat anything!!

In fairness, the revolving bowl probably added at least 20 seconds! ?

I think my labrador is the wierdst eater I know if very hungry she lies down to eat from the bowl but she usually isnt really bothered about food so carefully selects two or three bits of kibble carries them to her mat in the living room and drops them on the floor before eating them one at a time. She might then go back to the bowl for a couple more it can take her all day to eat her required amount. She wont eat at all if we are not sitting down with her she is a pain sometimes must be doing okay though as she is neither fat nor thin

I'm glad you've found a food that he likes, and Is also what seems to be best for them. I bet you don't have any problems with the greyhounds eating kibble, if they're anything like my lad, he hoovers it up! ? Which brand of kibble do you feed?

I'm tempted to try mine on raw, though he'd probably become even more food obsessed than he is already, which could be a problem! It's the freezer space and cost that's making me dither, and also that vets are generally anti raw - presumably because they see the dogs that it goes wrong for. I don't suppose that happens too often though. For reasons of cost and freezer space I could do 50:50 raw and kibble (fed separately) but know that you're not supposed to feed both - I read that it increases the risk of bloat. One of my greys had this, so it is a concern. How did your greyhounds do on raw?
