I heard that it is Pre-Novice Plus - dressage and SJ at Novice level and cross-country at Pre-Novice level. Rather like the Intermediate Novice class, bridging the gap between the two classes.

Oh really?
How fascinating!! Think it will be popular
I quite agree! I presently do Intro and would love to move up to prenovice. My only phobia is the SJ. If i could do intro dress and sj and pre novice XC i would be happy!
Agree - N dressage is very straightforward and the xc usually has alternatives plus there are milder events than others. Its the SJ thats a nightmare and if you pass that test you deserve to go N XC!
IMO its far cheaper and does not appear on your record to go and practice 1.10 BSJA than doing a PNP!
In an IN the showjumping is 1.20, half way between novice and intermediate. Does that mean in this PNP it will 1.10, half way between novice and pre-novice?
And you could say the same about IN - the dress & Sj at Intermediate are difficult so why then go Nov XC. Swings in round abouts. I think it will be popular.
Whats the restrictions on them? And where are they?
Mar 6-9 TWESELDOWN (1) Hampshire ON, PN, OPN, I, OI, N, PNP Schedule in Preparation
Apr 15-16 EBBESBOURNE WAKE Wiltshire Intro, PN, PNP, OPN, OIntro Schedule in Preparation
May 17-18 ARLEY HALL Cheshire ON, OPN, PN, N, PNRF, IN, PNP Schedule in Preparation
May 24-25 PONTISPOOL (1) Somerset N, PN, Intro, IN, JRN, 4YO, PNP Schedule in Preparation
I think that is a bit pointless- the Novice XC is easy once youv'e got past the horrendus showjumping! And a big PN course is much the same as an easy Novice course don't you think?
I do see the point of IN but really think that this PNP class is not needed
I can understand your viewpoint but the intermediate dressage tests demand a great deal more than the novice dressage tests so do not think that is a very fair comparable. But I can see a great deal of people doing it. Plus they have chosen a good course in Ebbesbourne Wake as it is a beefy PN in places with some fences which would not be out of place in a novice though not very technical.
I think it sounds good that they're trying to bridge the gap between PN & N, but I agree with lots of people that the SJ would be the most worrying thing for me, rather than the XC.
Makes my stomach turn thinking about N size SJ!

But lots of people ARE more scared of the xc. Many people couldnt care less about the sj so I think it's wrong to assume that this format wont be popular.
For a horse like Moon who has always found the sj very easy I would have been happy to do a PNP before going novice.
I think most people are scared of the XC. I find the SJ the easiest bit (but then I BSJA) - anybody can work on this phase by simply doing some BSJA's, however trying to get XC practice in is much harder because unaffiliated tracks only go to 1.05/1.10 and often are still nothing like Novice tracks, so its harder to know if you're ready.
What I want is an intermediate with easy dressage! THAT is the worst phase for me!
I'm still sure its for ponies as there was a couple last year for ponies. Could be a mid-way step though!
The prob with IN is u need points to do it, but for Int u don't!!!!! Find this funny!!! I went straight to Int and then won points but can't win any at novice!!!!
