Eventing 2024 Season Thread

Lots of good reports for this weekend, nice to see RF and TM gingers all being good ponies and back out and about.
IKMV - he needs a pole in the warm up just before you go in :D
Sail_Away - sound like you made the right call at the right time, there will be a day when it matters and it's muddy, so at least you know how horse might take to it now. All data in the bank.

Belsay has cancelled 😭, we were only there for WHP but still a disappointment.
Does anyone in the right area know if Bramham is safe?

Fences at Bramham are being finished off on site - there has been a lot of rain generally in the north east so keep praying to the weather gods. Belsay’s cancellation was gutting - that land gets hunted on all winter so can stand up to most conditions but the amount of rain in the last few days has been ridiculous.

Loving reading all your posts. Hoping to get daughter and horse out to their first BE at the end of June at Oatridge. I have read it is hilly so a bit concerned about horse's fitness. Can anyone tell me how it compares to what Burgie was like? I know Oatridge hasn't run for a while but was thinking it would be over roughly the same ground as it has run before?

Were of to Bramham to spectate on Saturday 8th June, plus see a bit of the showjumping and pony club mounted games, plus a look round the 123 trade stands. Its FREE ENTRY on FRIDAY 4pm till 8pm and all 123 trade stands are open, very handy if you are only an hour away with a bit of spare cash.

If it's the same track you start in a field that is higher than the farm/big arena. Then you run uphill but not steeply, it's undulating along the top, then you drop down fairly steeply to the water (if it's where it used to be), turn and go back uphill a bit to the finish. Similar to Burgie really, ie up hill to begin with, run along and a bit up and down, then back down to the finish. No worse than Hopetoun's hill, or Kirriemuir.

Sadly no more eventing for me until the Autumn now as Nova has picked up a small injury, but I am very impressed that my Oxstalls BE entry was refunded within an hour of emailing. Will be following other people's seasons with interest (and a hint of jealousy!)

WTAF, IHW needs to have some strong words with 🍊, he has used up his sick note quota 😡

What a shame and how incredibly unlucky. Hope Nova has a full recovery and you're back on board soon.

Thank you. Sadly he has form for doing something to sabotage every single event season so I'm just kind of resigned to it now 🤬

Have you been tempted to get another as a back up/ project? It could prove to be the perfect way to stop him sabotaging in the future too if he knows there's another to fill his shoes 😂

Quick report on our attempt at the Cotswold Cup at Solihull. First event for the horse - he's never put all three things together on pne day so that was a big mental challenge for him! Dressage test was green and wobbly but he did everything he was meant to do, when he was asked to , so can't complain. Score of 39.8 left him in 12th so very happy with that!
Show jumping was on a surface and he made the fences look tiny and the distances short, but he left the poles up.
Cross Country he was quite keen to go fast and straight on landing over every fence, which proves tricky for the rider on a twisty course 🤣 but he went clear with only a few time faults , leaving him in 12th. Over the moon with him and planning some more outings!

We got very wet at Nunney!
Dressage was really good (for him) - 32 with an error of course included.

SJ - he has really started to nail this phase now, as a 6yo we were a little worried by his anxiety levels but towards the end of last season he looked a little better and this season both BS and BE hasn’t faulted. So another clear 😁

XC - super again. Very slow but clear. Really solid on his lines.

Is it dawning on you yet that he may have to go Advanced at some point in the not-too-distant future?!

We are close to Nunney and I did think of the people out in yesterdays rain.

I nearly can't believe it - but we completed our first 3* at Alnwick Ford, and with an MER score too 😁

He's just the coolest horse. Did a solid 36.6 dressage, which was obedient albeit lacking in suppleness - but that is just a bit how he's always going to be. Started the showjumping brilliantly, had a blip at fence 5 and 6, but then jumped clear around the rest, recovering well from a bit of a heart stopping moment.

And then cross country - WHAT a dude - there were some absolutely humongous fences. I didn't think the technicality was too OTT, but everything was big enough that there wasn't any leeway to eff it up. He just went out there and took all the big spreads on, stayed straight to his skinnies and trusted me when he wasn't totally sure (like the coffin in the video below). Finished just 14 seconds over the time, barely blowing, and really happy with himself. Needless to say, I've just ordered the video 😆

Was so nice to be at an event in the sunshine and on great going for a change too after this spring...
