Ever been harrased out riding?!

Op I would be grateful to know whereabouts in Devon too in case I am close by.
As a teenager I had a group of drunk lads follow me and taunt me with the usual phrases " hey horsey girl come ride this... " and other such crude things. I was riding a fat little Ned who barely managed to trot normally but he must have sensed i was getting upset and by god he turned into the most magnificent great warmblood ( well thats what he felt like anyway!) and he spun to face them and leapt forward with his ears back and teeth out and frightened the life out of them. He got lots of treats that night. I did report what happened to yard owner and she found out one of the boys was and made sure his dad knew all about it. I did see him a few months later on his own when out hacking and he mumbled an embarrassed hi and scouted off.
I have also during a late evening summer ride out with friends, had a man jump out naked in the road wearing fox ears and a tail and shout " hunt me down girlies!). At first we were not quite sure what to make of it but his equally drunk mates came stumbling up the road a few minutes later baying like hounds! I think they were part of the local young farmers

i was followed and flashed at once by a cyclist when i was about 10 hacking alone, i panicked, my pony bolted back towards the yard, took a very sharp turn to the stable block where i banged my head on the corner and fell off at my friends dads feet who quickly ran off up the lane with a pitch fork after the dirty ******. Have to say police were not very tactful in taking a statement and the female officer seemed very overly interested in the size, shape and colour of his manhood and as a result the police interview left me more traumatised than the flasher.

not horse related but recently i have been followed by a black astra 3 times walking my dog down the same road at night, the first time the car had kids in the back and i assumed they were slowing tolet kids look at my dog (he is a very, very large tiger striped mastiff and quite impressive to look at) the next two times i didnt notice any kids in the car i jst knew it was too odd to be happening again, panicked and ran back home as fast as my lazy lump of a dog woul allow, now my partner insists he does the night walks but he hasnt seen the car

Eeww, why oh why do so many men feel the need to flash their dangly bits to anyone who happens to be in their vicinity?

OP, would you be so kind as to PM me the area too?

When I worked nights on the buses (after my fab Rottie x died - he was an excellent deterrent!) I carried a little breath freshener spray, Gold Spot or similar. That stuff really, really hurts if you get it in your eye! It's also very easy to carry.

I've had abuse shouted at me from drivers who are upset at having to slow down.

One time out riding, a man in a van slowed down, pulled alongside me and my friend and told us that he always saw us out riding in the daytime which MUST mean we don't have jobs and how unfair that was on other people.

Also one of the places I (and others) hack is a very scenic single track road up into a forest and is unfortunately a popular area for gay men meeting up for sex. Often you pass cars parked in passing places and the men are doing the deed in the trees or they are driving slowly up and down the road until someone they like drives along. My friend likes to wear her "Polite" hiviz waistcoat and accessories on those hacks and they drive off quick smart when they think a mounted police officer is heading their way. Never mind that the horse in question is a wee ginger welsh cob and completely unpolicehorselike :D

Maybe because Im male and wear unflattering breeches, Im usually left alone out hacking (possibly too because my colleaugue is the size of a house) but I have had one idiot driver crawl behind me and as soon she got a free space, she sped off screaming "Take up the whole ********ng road next time you w****r", I was riding a cob and nearly sat in the bush at the time!

Do you take your mobile out? Be good to get a pic

25 years ago, We. Had a weird incomer to the area (Dorset) who would patrol "his" lane with a shotgun. My old boy disliked 'sticks' of any kind, put his ears back his head forward and barged. Never had another moments trouble.

I think police were eventually involved by another rider.

carry a whip, if anyone came at me or my horse they'd get that across the chops. Hat cam would also be useful and contact the police on 101. What area of devon?

Once, about 25 years ago. I was riding on a bridleway around the edge of a public park. I heard a voice behind me say "excuse me, do you know what the time is". I turned around to answer and was faced with some silly bloke with his trousers round his ankles and his bits on display. Now being a young country girl, mens bits neither scared nor impressed me and as I had the good fortune to be mounted on a 17.2 ID at the time I rode straight at him at a spanking trot. To this day the thought of him trying to make his escape into the nearest bushes with his trousers round his ankles and a look of pure panic makes me giggle. Now I know my actions were probably not very sensible and tbh these days I wouldnt do the same thing and would definitely report this type of incident, but honestly, it was almost comedic at the time.

Many years ago, I took a bunch of students to a riding school for lessons once a week. One day we were hacking out round the school's land. We split into two groups; the less experienced with an instructor, and me with the three more experienced and another instructor - all male. The other group met us looking very upset, as they'd met a flasher. We could see him in the distance. so the male instructor set off to see him off. I told the lads to follow, and then thought I might as well go too. Our horses were 16.2 and above, and the five of us thundered down towards him at gallop. I have never seen someone run so fast or vault a five bar gate so nimbly. He'd been seen before, but was never seen again.
