Op I would be grateful to know whereabouts in Devon too in case I am close by.
As a teenager I had a group of drunk lads follow me and taunt me with the usual phrases " hey horsey girl come ride this... " and other such crude things. I was riding a fat little Ned who barely managed to trot normally but he must have sensed i was getting upset and by god he turned into the most magnificent great warmblood ( well thats what he felt like anyway!) and he spun to face them and leapt forward with his ears back and teeth out and frightened the life out of them. He got lots of treats that night. I did report what happened to yard owner and she found out one of the boys was and made sure his dad knew all about it. I did see him a few months later on his own when out hacking and he mumbled an embarrassed hi and scouted off.
I have also during a late evening summer ride out with friends, had a man jump out naked in the road wearing fox ears and a tail and shout " hunt me down girlies!). At first we were not quite sure what to make of it but his equally drunk mates came stumbling up the road a few minutes later baying like hounds! I think they were part of the local young farmers
