I very much enjoy cruising Horsemart and looking at the adverts, though I don't need another horse and certainly don't have the space for one. Months and months ago I saw an advert for a pony, just a safe little 'plodder' of a 13.1hh Fell (at least that's how he sounds from the advert). My own horse is a 16.2hh ISH so it's obviously not that I have a certain taste in horses!

Anyway, this little pony has been relisted on there so many times and I just love him. I don't know why. I'm 5'8" and clearly already have a horse so no idea why I think I need a little Fell pony?! I have looked at the advert so many times and, without sounding harsh, it's not even like he should be something special to me. He's also overpriced IMO. I just don't know why I can't stop looking! If we had space, I would definitely be begging my parents...

Feel free to tell me that I'm nuts and to share your own secret horsey loves.

PS. Did I mention that I love him?!

Just keep telling yourself that he wont keep those lovely dapples forever. ;)

ETA I once saw a Sec A version of my gelding. I sooo wanted the mini Mr P, but luckily I was able to resist. :D

I think he'd look nice when smartened up a bit. My secret loves are Welsh Sec A, my fave riding school pony when I was a kid was a grey Welsh Sec A called Crystal who was an absolute madam but I loved her :)

There is something about him isnt there! Hes a tad fugly though bless him! I wouldnt say he was a pure Fell either, but a lovely colour!
I have a real thing about Arabs - the weight I am it'd have to be a blooming stocky begger!! x

I doubt almost every word of his advert TBH. And he is one fuggly pony, but I would be offering them less than half the asking price and giving him lots of attention and probably enjoying just having him around. I always go for the fuggly ones, even if I don't need another horse!:o

Lol it's these fugly ones that are the ones which you can have the most fun with, and more importantly come home in one piece.

Yea, she was a great fat thing, but ever so cute.
Sadly she was sold before I was able to be in a position to buy a horse :(

I think the horse you linked to is gorgeous! I would have him :D

If he is really very quiet I would not sat that overpriced could easily carry an adult,he does not look like a fell though his head is not right.
I dont think he is really ugly though lets say workmanlike you would have to wonder why they need to be relisting.

A really quiet pony that could also carry an adult even if not everybodys cup of tea should sell very easily.

Bless, he's hideous.. but I once saw an extremely overpriced show cob about 5 years ago and i still think about it now. He was everything i dont like, a cob, and blue and white. But there was definitely something about him so i know what you mean!

I just don't know what it is about him... I know he isn't much of a looker by most standards (haha!) but I just love his face! I have some sort of odd dream about bumbling around on him bareback and cuddling him a lot. I think it's partly that I always think it would be fun to ride a little pony but at 5'8" and a little over 10st, I always think I couldn't ride something that small. But he looks like he could quite happily plod with me!

If he truly is that safe then I guess he does have quite a bit more value than many ponies, given that he could carry an adult. Though I still think he's a bit overpriced for the current economic climate (well, he must be seeing as they've relisted him so many times!).

Why oh why?!

I bet he is the sort that you could plonk your kids on and leave them to it in the paddock while you go and muck out. Wont win any rosettes or admiring glances from the more ambitious pony club Mums. But your children will happily remember their sweet natured childhood friend for the rest of their days. And so will you when you recall what a wonderful little Nanny Doubtfire the 'ugly' pony was?;)

Oooo Fiona I do like the look of him! Lovely face.

OP he doesn't look like a Fell to me, and it's not just the colour. Not my cup of tea (and like you I do fall for the oddest adverts) but I know what you mean :)

He's not ugly, you rotten lot!

I think he's rather lovely. The price does seem high, but then if his nature is as good as they say, maybe not. From what you say they're having trouble selling though.

Don't tell Mollie but I keep looking at this one:

Just virtual window shopping of course!;)

He is gorgeous and just my sort but, I would be very wary. If I had a pound for every trad cob I have seen at 4/5/6 who is genuinely, quiet, obedient and bombproof and is bought on that description by a novice/nervous rider. It is often a totally different character at 7 when it starts to throw a few 'Kevins' and realises that it actually has a mind of its own!:p

Looooove his face! :)

I didn't think the ad I linked to looked like a full Fell (but I don't know much about the breed), just a stocky little lad who I WAAAAAAANT.

ALL THE TIME. Mostly because I am in no position to buy a horse at all atm :o:(
There was a gorgeous hairy little chesnut foal on dragon driving with one wall eye a white face and 4 white stockings but mostly my fantasies include Arab or PRE stallions that I couldn't ride one side of but one can dream.

I fell in love with this:
honrosofield3.jpg

but it was too expensive and I absolutely did not need a horse. But I daydreamed about that advert for weeks. 6 weeks later up he popped again for less. 1 week later I bought him. I absolutely did not need an unbacked 3 year old with ADHD, and now i'm stuck with the gorgeous, mentally unstable beasty for probably the next 30 years because i love him even more now than when I saw that photo (and cos who else would have him?!)! I'm grey before my time, permanently living 'on the edge' waiting to see what he will do next, but I wouldn't trade him for the world!

Just to tempt you further. I'm 5'8'' and weigh more than you and I own a 13.2hh fell as my main (and only) horse, my lad is less the quiet plod described in this ad and more exocet missile at the moment!. :D. In fact I bought him as a 4 year old and broke him in so you would definitely fit on this chap. Have to say if I saw the picture without the ad I wouldn't think he was a fell. But he is cuddly, my pony gives very good cuddles!
