Ever think you're a crap rider and don't deserve your horse??

All I do is happy hack, and then only when I can fit it round work. I keep wanting to try some intro dressage and booked some lessons but the weather has been so bad that I can't have any as my fields are under water.

Horse looks like a hippo and so do I and I feel pants and un-motivated. She deserves better.

Sorry, completely self-indulgent moan but I feel crap :(:(
 
I'm in the same boat.
Where abouts in Northumberland are you, I am borders of Northumberland/Durham and intend to hire a school at the local EC, I also manage to have fun schooling on hacks, having no place for a school at home
 
Snap, snap & snap. Having been bucked off on Wednesday i'm feeling even more of a rubbish rider. Although i did get back on him straight away on Wednesday i've chickened out of getting back on him since :(

Horse looks like a hippo too, i also work full-time, have a family etc & generally just hack around, which is why on Wednesday i thought i'd try and school him, what an error of judgement that was :(

you're not alone xx , but i know i'm a crap rider ! my horses are hippos , i have aspirations of doing more, both my lads are capable but my confidence is zero so just resign myself to plodding around the countryside and guess what i love it and so do my boys . so don't beat yourself up about it, all horses ask for is to be well looked after and cared for xx
 
Me too. I often think I'm a crap rider and if I was even half reasonable my horse would go better. The weather has been so rubbish we've hardly been able to do anything this year which isn't helping :(
 
But, the weather will improve at some stage, you can have your lessons and you will get around to doing what you want to in time. :)

'Crap' is relative, there are varying degrees of crappiness, I am sure that you aren't down there in the sub basement of crapdom, don't be so hard on yourself.

This is the first year I dared to dream we would go out in public,

Noah and God have other ideas, clearly.
 
You aren't alone. I bought my horse as a jumper, and bought her to jump and event; the three times I've taken her out we've been eliminated. It makes me want to hide in a hole. Tonight was one of those days, so embarrassing. I know its all me and not her so I'm off to look for an instructor now... Only way is up Xx
 
Join the club! I'm hoping to get a couple of lessons in August but I'm absolutely terrified as I don't feel I'm even vaguely presentable at the moment. Why oh why did I let myself/horses get into this state? :(

thnks for this post enfys.... i too am disheartened as my fields are totally water logged and have had to cancel any lessons due to the swamp! must stay positive......weather will get better!x
 
I am not a naturally talented rider and I was saying to my friend the other day that my pony is so capable and would be really competitive with a better rider, and she said but he would not like that as he would prefer to be in his field with his friends or hacking out and doing sponsored rides and low level competitions rather than travelling all over the country doing competitions and being in a stable alot.

If you have a happy horse then you fully deserve to have them.
 
Ahhh thanks guys, glad to see I am not alone! I have literally just now booked a dressage lesson on a school master tomorrow eeeek!

well, i cant ride my babes in a waterlogged field, but can ride someone else;s in a lovely school!! :D
 
Fully paid up member of the hippo horse club with lazy git rider syndrome. You are NOT ALONE. There are loads of us. I am a happy hacker (I refuse to say JUST a happy hacker), havent sat on my horse for 10 days, work is full on, and have been working in Lincoln for last few days, its crap weather, hey who cares? My horse doesnt, in fact he is loving life munching in his paddock.

Dont beat yourself up, your horse doesnt give a dam.
 
I compete but am too scared to have lessons for fear of what might be said :eek: This year has been dreadful - I have no school either so progress with Fergs education has been rather stop start. It is very demotivating (especially when I try to compete and can't because my towing vehicle dies on me :mad:) but it always gets better at some point. It will get better :)
 
Yep I know what you mean, this year I then made a real effort to get my girl in the show ring where she could shine, spent tons of cash on show stuff and lost her :( dont really care for me but feel like I let her down by not doing it sooner, we did it a bit in the behining but not at the level we were aiming for this yr. now I just feel like a bad owner full stop as I thought it wasn't going to rain tonight and I have a wedding tomorrow so have done my nails etc so I left baby Ben out, he has a field shelter and company over the hedge but I know he won't be happy out and I feel like a cruel mummy :(
 
Regularly but little horse makes me look like I can ride and big horse puts up with it because he fell for me like I did him he his behaviour is anything to go by. I'm a very lucky horse owner.

lol thanks. I'm not trying to moan, honest (I do often enough anyway!) I just meant that I think a lot of people share the OP's concerns - me included! - whether they're actually founded in the truth or not :o

Sometimes we get so tied up in trying to get to where we want to be that we forget to look back and appreciate just how far we've come.

Don't worry, I was teasing :p (although obviously I stand by the you're doing brilliantly bit.) If you're feeling a bit lost then maybe a couple of lessons will help you mentally, I certainly know I need more than a couple though :o
 
I'm another member of "the hippo horse club with lazy git rider syndrome".

Since being diagnosed with EMS and having to increase his meagre workload, my filthy grey pony/OH/weather and work have all conspired to stop us getting out and about much - hospital stay (OH - fine after the weekend), unseen fly bite rubbing under saddle so can't be ridden til healed, losing shoe, flooded school, hacking buddy being lame, coming in from field covered in wet sheep poo ...

Still, soon be summer :) and he's more than happy eating grass in the paddock with his muzzle (although he seems to be munching through the bottom of that now :rolleyes:)

OP, think of it a different way.

My 'best' pony has been played by a very good pro polo player ( he was a nine goaler...I am minus one in polo handicaps!!), and we only got her as her owner wasn't returning to the UK and wanted her to have a good home. I feel she is probably wasted on me, as she is so sharp that I barely play her, a friend does. But I also know that I love her to bits, she is a good and loving home, and whilst I know she probably won't reach her full potential, I know she is one content and happy little pony, and that's enough for me .

I'm sure if your horse could talk it would say just being loved and looked after is enough. Being happy and loved, I think that's enough ;)

Well, I have booked a lesson tomorrow afternoon on a horse that has never met me in the hope that a riding school horse wont kill me for not bending my elbows and will help my position!!
