Hey dose anyone know where i can get a older polo pony or one that has been cooked and needs to chill out for a bit. I have done polo for 12 years and have asked loads of people and i thought this would help to.
I need one that is safe to go on quiet roads so i can lead my baby out and about..Nice home awats plenty of turn out and stable if needed will only be hacked out twce a week so easy life. Welcome to come vet yard first..Hope to hear from someone please...

Plenty on horsemart atm, which are coming out of private homes.
It could be worth ringing round the bigger yards, but the chances of it being 'cooked' are much higher then!

Try contacting polo clubs to let them know what you're looking for. If you're around Cambridge, I know of a couple at Haggis Farm or you could try the University Polo Club (they have their own but sell them on sometimes).

Would try some of the clubs as they may have some club ponies looking for a quiet life (that's how I got mine). Or maybe some of the dealers. If you let me know which area you're in, I can PM you some names to try.

Hi thanks guys i am n the london area but will travel to see them..do not want to pay slly money just to hack out twice a week or so but wll be an excellent home, all the best care they could want...keep the deas coming (the ones on horsemart generally can still play so slly money i just want an olde or a cooked one that need to be let down....if someone knows of a pony like this that would be great...would be happy to get it fit for next season and send it back if needed) cheers all you helpull peeps

You could try Green Point Polo based near West Wycombe. I think they still do pony hire and might have something near retirement, or one that needs a rest. Also well known on the polo scene and will likely know of other similar ponies.

Hi cooked is when they have been played too much or too fast and hard as youngsters and as a result are constantly "hot" or "wired" or just hot headed horses that have been pushed, This makes them harder to play as they tend to launch around n the air and not stay flat to hit the ball off....results are not nice....
I have seen that cloarado pony he s everywhere but i do not want to pay that much for a pony to hack twice a week, Really looking to adopt one so it dose not go for meat etc etc..

I've always understood it to mean a horse which has had it's mind blown by too many oats and lots of exercise - very fit, and a complete nutter. Often, polo ponies are "cooked" and said to be dangerous, so they're sold out of polo to hacking homes (when there's nothing wrong with them!). They need a couple of months to chill, and then they're just like any other horse.

Typical behaviour of a "cooked" polo pony would be spinning, not stopping (often just cantering on the spot), jogging everywhere, leaping when asked to stop, rearing when mounted (particularly at a match). Usual vices associated with too much heating feed really, but it seems to occur often in polo ponies as *some* owners/players don't understand horse management and think that feeding oats is a good way of making the horse run faster.

Can just be down to over-excitement - I had one that was completely cooked 2 weeks into the playing season. She had no feed, grass only, and was still a lunatic. Fab pony though!
